When did your Black Australorps start to lay?

My Australorp was hatched March 24th and has yet to lay an egg, thank goodness we only picked one of her when we bought chicks. The other 7 chicks we bought were RSL, BSL, and leghorns. They started laying the week of Aug. 29th. If this BA hasn't started to lay by the time my August hatched pullets lay, she's gotta go. lol

That is awesome! Our little lady is still holding out but right now none of our chickens are laying because winter. :/ Are you using supplemental lighting?

I got my Black Australorps. the end of February as a pullet and now its the 9th of October she doesn't have a comb yet and is not laying. Does anyone have an idea when she will lay. The person I got it from does guarantee they are hems.

Any info you can give me would be great..

Thanks

Mine that I think is a BA (not quite sure if it's a BA, BJG, or mix) just started laying last week. She just turned 20 weeks old Sunday. Her eggs are very small right now...hoping they get bigger.

What is "grooming the rooster"? Because I've seen my roo bend down & let her peck at him gently (maybe food off of him?) lately & wasn't sure if that was normal.

From what I have heard...
BA vs BJG what colour are the legs? Black = Black Australorp. Yellow = Jersey Giant.

No comb yet, probably means it's a hen. My roos got nice combs starting only a few weeks old, (maybe 8-10)? Also, mine are a few months younger than yours and my roosters are already crowing often. Give your hens time, they will lay.

My four BAs are just over 18 weeks, and two of them have been acting like they are getting close (grooming the roo, hanging around in the nest box, singing an egg song). I can't take the wait! It doesn't seem like there are many BA owners on here, so I will just come out and ask: how old were your BAs when they first laid?

Mine are 19 weeks and still no eggs.
