Prologue
An old man draped in a thick indigo cloak stood beside a beautiful sorrel filly. Her spirit was fiery, like her blood-red body. Her eyes were soft and white. She would be the one, the one to find the new Mist.
“Qa!” he shouted to her. “Go, my dionlp!” he shouted. She reared and pawed the air, snorting. “Wezlp, you must go and find her for us, or we shall be no more without the one.” He whispered. She turned to face him and thrust her nose into his hands. “I know, you wish not to enter into the anlik” he whispered. “But you must go to save our people” he told her quietly.
She snorted and broke into a gallop into the trees. The old man stared after her for a long time, until she could be seen and heard no more. He sighed and rubbed his tired eyes. She must not fail. If she did, the empire and the people entrusted to his care would be lost. He wrapped his thick wool cloak tighter around his shoulders and began a slow ascent. A loud sound of rushing water could be heard in the distance. Eyes filled with hope, he made his way to a beautiful rushing waterfall. It was massive. A large pool of water covering shimmering quartzite lay below it. Mist drifted lazily around the falls, mixed with stray droplets. The old man raised a hand and thrust it into the water, letting the cold, clear liquid wash over it. He sighed peacefully and disappeared behind the sparkling water.
Here we go again! Somehow, we always do this.
