Otherwise I put just a tiny bit of bleach in the water when cleaning my incubator and set it in the sun to dry. The sun kills bacteria. After a hatch my incubator used stink to high heaven!!! sickbyc.gif  But now that I use the Oxine in the water there is barely any smell. And it is totally safe!!

Here is the website with the info on Oxine~  HAPPY HATCHING!   jumpy.gif

Oxine can also be used in the water you use in your incubator and in drinking water to keep the slime and bacteria down. If you go to Bario's page he has a link where he posted all the uses and amounts for using Oxine.

I like your red Polish...I have been looking for over 6 months for one. Though they are not a standard color crest they are very useful in breeding projects. Where did you get yours? I believe that they only accepted solid crests are the white crested polish..is that correct NoseyChickens??

Black Crested White non-bearded is also accepted in the APA Standard for LF. Blue (solid blue crest and body) is accepted in bantam per the ABA Standard

On showing the red polish in 4h ask the show chairperson. I am the chair for our fair show. Since ours is not an apa show you can show pretty much anything. At an apa show you can show them however, they can only earn best of variety, no best of breed

I will have about 9 hens and my roo. He is my only one. I got my Red by accident. A friend ordered some assorted Polish from Ideal Hatchery and sold him to me as chick, thinking he was Gold Laced. I soon figured out he wasn't.

This is true. Just because a color is not accepted does not mean it can't be shown. In fact when new colors are being considered to be added to the standard you want to have them out there and being shown. It helps when proposing a new color to have had them seen in show.

Would you have a link to Bario's page by any chance?

Here are pics of the Polish i inquired about. I got this Polish as a chick and was told it was a tolbunt polish, which was ordered from greenfire farms but i believe i got something else.  I could not locate any other polish chickens being sold by Greenfire though.  Who knows.

Pretty bird, yes a tolbunt. Pretty heavy laced. How old? I would suspect that this one came from a generation or two back where a tolbunt split was used.

Well I bought 4 polish all different colors(Buff,White Crested, Silver and Golden laced) and wound up with two boys and two girls which I think is pretty good because usually when I buy out of straight run I normally get just boys.
