Mine think standing there and shaking their heads is going to help.

I guess mine are the opposite. Course, it rains a LOT out here, but, they're pretty smart about rain and especially wind too.

The only worries I have of mine are that when an alarm is called or they see an actual aerial threat, they're not the best at taking action. The girls will often run for cover if they feel the threat is real, but the boys especially stand there. They're the best alarms though! No rooster I've ever had is more aware of their surroundings than my Polish and even Polish cross boys.

As to the question pertaining to the surface/bedding of a run for Polish, sorry I can't answer that because I just don't do runs. My smallest "run" is big enough to support grass and shrubs, and that's my preferred ground.

okay.. the 8x11 coop is done and now the babies are in an x-large dog crate inside. Ive propped the door of the crate just enough so they can get in and out but not enough that any of the big girls can get in.

Heres Gilbert checking out one of his new ladies! Its our surprise chick, weve named her dotty

Surprisingly, nancy was not very excited about the new babies

all of my large sized girls were very welcoming. Even my resident broody mother was especially protective.

Now I know that Gilbert is hatchery stock and color or type wise not anything really, however at four months old i am finding him absolutely handsome! cant wait to see him in another few months!

They're seven-eight weeks. Gah! The blacks are throwing me of so bad. The reds are obvious boys and the splash is an obvious girl. These blacks though... I just don't know. Their saddle feathers are somewhere in between boy and girl

My one Polish chick right now is 7 weeks. I don't know for sure yet. Sometimes their behavior such as posture, can give a hint. I've gone by whether their eyes are getting more and more covered. Like if they can continue to see clearly, probably a boy.

Mine right now, acts like a she, but tonight I refilled their food and I swear "she" made that "come and get it" noise roos make. Mine has no spikes , no pointy feathers, like your Bowie, no spikes.

I know it took me 10-11 weeks to know what they are most of the time.

Any green in the tail feathers? I've noticed that most roosters have a green sheen in those tail feathers of theirs. Just a thought.
