Mountain Lion Kills Horse!

We have mountain lion around here, they say thier territory is 65 miles per lion. they hang out for awhile and then move on. We had one that was stalking the kids bus stop, and they found it dead in a ditch. No one seems to know who shot it. One neighbor wanted its paws but the wildlife folks said it is illegal to shoot one unless you are actively protecting your life or livestock, pets don't count. And then they took it away. Another neighbor came home from work and couldn't get to her house. The lion was between her and her front door. Her husband fired a couple rounds and it left. Its is the scary part of the price we pay to live in rural areas. Thankfully they don't stay to long before they are off again. I hope the horse was ok, so sad to see that. We just hope there is enough other game to eat, elsewhere.

It could be the wolves, but that type of "killing" sounds like the works of a very large feline. I too do not believe in killing, especially "imaginary" animals

. Were there any hair samples on the foal or ground? If it was in fact a mountain lion, then you would have proof, though I doubt the officials would believe you then as it would be an "exotic feline".

Luckily, as previously mentioned, they don't tend to stay in one are for long. I'm not sure many people around that area will believe you, 1. because many of the "old-timers" are set in their ways and 2. many think cougars are animals that are never seen, and there is rarely a trace of them left behind. This is not at all true. I've seen them at a family members home, who lives in a small town, essentially in a forest, where there are mountain lions (Western Canada), though it was denied. Good luck in tracking this non-existing animal, what ever it is.
