Is this a ruptured air sac?

My chick is just over 4 weeks old. Over the last 3 days or so, I've noticed she has this squishy spot on her chest. It's not her crop, I don't feel any food in it. I've researched and think it may be a ruptured air sac.

If it is, do I have to lance it or will it go away on it's own?

Hard to say from the picture, when I have seen it it has shown up more in the neck area. If it is not causing problems it may well go away on it's own, but if it is collecting fluid it could be a potential for infection.

If you think it is air and not causing a problem, I'd just watch it, if it seams to be causing discomfort or trouble then they are easy to deflate. If infection starts to become an issue as it did with one case I saw then antibiotics if you are ok with them.

i'd love to hear some more opinions on this, i have the same problem with an adult chabo roo...he's so full of air he 's round like a football!

There is a bit of info on it if you look up subcutanious emphasima (spelling?) Daining the excess pressure with a large gauge needle works well for serious cases. Infection is a concern.

I'll try to get a better pic this evening. I looked at the puffy spot better today, and can see right through a thin spot in her skin. It looks like air, no liquid, and feels very much like just air. It moves in and out when she breathes. Is this something you think will heal on it's own? I've read conflicting reports on this.

(she is eating and drinking fine, and often flying, just not as much as some of the other chicks.)
