One thing riled up masses of angry people need, more than anything, is a good community organizer.....We now have headhunters in Uganda. Starting to get a picture?

NATO stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organization, not World Police. I'm betting that their charter doesn't include running herd on every rogue dictator, anywhere in the world. It was designed to keep Europe safe from Soviet threat.

The overthrow was the easy part compared to what happens next. It may turn out good or it may turn out bad. I think they are again finding out how hard that is in Egypt right about now. We can try to help and influence it, but it has to come from the Libyan people. We can't do it for them.

I first heard this yesterday on the radio and they played an audio clip from the actual show and they said 2011 in the dialogue.

I believe Q9 has the facts. Mad dogs are only replaced by crafty dogs that go mad.

I know it's a false hope, but I hope modern social networking via internet vs. media manipulation (see Spanish/American war) would change human culture to something that benefits the majority.

Excuse me, I think I need to go occupy wallstreet.

Looking for posts on Libya I came across this thread. My husband of 27 yrs is from here and we recently move to help his parents and rejoin his family. 3 yrs later there is so much still needing. Mindset, greed, corruption not to mention lack of so much. Aside from all the politics most people only want to move forward, have better lives. As a genealogist I spent how many years reading about the lives of my ancestors. Now im able to travel back in time and live how they once lived. Yes many areas are that primitive still. But I hope and pray that those things will one day share a place with some modern lifestyles. There is talk of returning to King rulership as many felt that in the time of King Idris life was better, no it was western, not necessarily better. I dont want to get into politics or anything else since im here for info on chickens and how I can help locals produce better animals. If you know of any NGOs working here doing animal husbandry I would love contact with them. Time and help from outside organizations will help the people here most. Most dont care about politics when they have no water, electric or basic needs still unchanged three years later. I have friends from many surrounding countries and we all now know what happened in the months that followed his death but I for one am happy he is gone. Back to rebuilding and restoring life.

I wish you all the luck in the world. What a noble ideal, very few dedicate their lives to helping others you are a wonderful inspiration to some of us, many of us, who have become completely selfish and self obsessed. You are 100% right that western lifestyles are not necessarily better. I think many of us see that in our post industrial worlds and long to go back to a simpler time and way of life. The Libyan people are a remarkable race. Hard working and resourceful, sadly betrayed by dishonest leadership. i know they will come through this and things will gradually improve. Good luck to you and everyone there!!

Thanks I have a dear friend also american who came here 26 yrs ago, she said its paradise now as compared to when she came. Yes, I love being able to turn back the clock and looking into a homestead style life. At 53 it will be a challenge but seeing as due to my health, large family and now hubbies heart attack, a simple life just might be the ticket. I live in a safe city just outside Tripoli and we have few problems. I lived b4 in Colorado just outside of Denver and I can tell you I love having 4 seasons again, no snow, hailstorms or tornadoes. Sandstorm well they havent been bad yet. Heat well just like Florida. But I can walk to the sea and swim free all I want, fish too. There is a lot they dont have here and lots that need fixing but its a simple life. Thanks.
