Is anyone going to the Small Farms Conference in Corvallis on Feb 25th?? There are two sessions about the new "small producers" rule that was passed last year by the Legislature, giving some of us small kitchen crafters and chicken sellers the ability to sell to the public. The conference site is: http://small-farms.oregonstate.edu/2012SFC - it's $45 (which is more than I can afford). This is the first place I've seen that says they have more info!!

If any one is going, can you share with us the info for "Birds, Bees and Pickles" (covering jam, honey, sales, etc, and poultry) and "Oregon's 1000 Bird Exemption" covering small-scale poultry producers?? Most of us at the chicken swap would be covered by these new rules (unless you are already a professional business), so it would be so cool to get the details!

Laura - this is close to you, and would give you the info on your cheesecakes... (wheedle, wheedle...)fl.gif

Lol....wish I could but my days are so full already that I can't fit one more thing in...not even for a day.  That week especially since I'm heading to Roseburg for a tennis tournament with my son on the weekend. Maybe someone else is going.....

I'm not going to be able to make it to the Conference.  That's not a good time of year for me to plan to go over the pass.

I'd sure like to know what the new law is, though.  I can't find any information, any where.  It would be brilliant to be able to sell a few dressed birds.

I don't know all the details but the Oregon government did pass two farm bills in 2011.  Bill 2336 allows farmers to sell low risk foods without using an inspected kitchen if they grow the food themselves and sell directly to the public. It includes things like jam, honey, dried fruit, etc..  They also passed bill 2872 (known as the 1000 chicken bill?) that allows small farmers to sell up to 1000 dressed birds per year without inspections as long as the annual earnings do not exceed $20,000.  Here are two links I found that show when the governor signed the bills into law, and when they took effect.  Hope that helps.

I'm gonna hang on to the flyer, and if no one from here goes, I can try to contact the speakers and see if they have handouts... I'm guessing the lecture would be even better, though, since they'd answer questions and probably ad lib... At least we know someone(s) has the info! smile.png
