3rd Annual New Year's Day Hatch!! - Page 461

What a great picture, I'll bet those chickens learned real quick to avoid the hooves.

My chickens have just discovered that if they cross the road (my driveway, really) there are great piles of waste hay with sheep poop and the occasional cow pattie; they think they've found heaven.  lol

I totally do. When I went to Arizona last spring I found a horse in the desert that I was absolutely in love with. I wonder what AirTran would have charged for baggage on that claim?

Thank you.  I kinda like her.  She's my "MorTang" (Morgan/Mustang), and she probably has "more tang" than this ole lady should have, but we're having fun.  This picture is the first day she had a bit in her mouth (and really wasn't too thrilled with the idea).  All four of my horses share with the chickens - - I've never seen them purposely go after them (yet).

This is for The other Mary and any other interested parties....

Picks of my New Years Day Hatch 2012 chicks.

First up the only two surviving Swedish Flower Hen chicks.  I'm guessing female on the left, male on the right.

Next up, group shot at the feeder.  Lots of blacks, whites and chipmunks.

...IMG_0691.JPG

This brownish-black Icelandic is a tad weird, it hardly has any feathers and the ones that it does have are WEIRD!

IMG_0684.JPG

Next, an Icelandic with white on it's wings... I'm guessing ROO!

IMG_0679.JPG

Next, the SFH.. ?Male?... notice the orange and white feathers coming in?

 IMG_0694.JPG

Next the only pure bred wheaten Ameraucana from my coop prior to roo loss.. I'm guessing pullet.

One of 7 chipmunk Icelandics

The blue and white one on the left is named "29"... as it was the last chick out...saved by my little girl because I was about to toss the egg and she said she heard a peep in the egg.  I pipped it and it was out not long after that.  It's mama is a big FBCM and the daddy was Fred, the Splash Wheaten roo.  Should be a pretty Olive Egger but it's looking rooish to me.

IMG_0687.JPG

And the Lavender Ameraucana from bargain's eggs.  All but two of the eggs she sent went into Meg's bator and they all got fried.  The two I kept hatched, one a purebred Lavender and the other a black EE.  I'm guessing the Lavender is a roo.  Should a get him decrowed and start a Lavender Wheaten project?

There you go. Off to candle the 36 eggs in my bator for the Ground Hog's Day Hatch.

Keeper of 26 hens,  4 PW Leghorns, 1 leghorn mix, 1 FBCMarans, 1 Australorp, 1 Buff Orpington, 2 Mama Olive Eggers w/ 15 chicks each, 1 EE, a Barred Rock, a RIR, a CQ, 1 Delaware, 1 Black Star, a Splash Ameraucana, 3 W/BW Ameraucana pullets, 5 polish, 2 Welsummers and 41 juvies of various breeds. YIKES!  Time to SELL some chickens!

I still have all my NYD chicks, although I think I've found a home for 4-5 of them.

The mathematical odds gods were looking over my shoulder.  I hatched four campines, 2 boys, 2 girls.  I also hatched 8 mutts, 4 boys, 4 girls.  I have to say though, one of the little boys is gorgeous, bright red!  He was a welsummer x BO.  I'll have to get a picture of him.  The other three mutt boys are all barred (sex-link).

The difference between breakfast and chicks, is the temperature you use to "cook" the eggs!

What breeds do I have?  More than any sane person would own.

My barn now has 17 coops. I have 10 outside coops.  I currently have 300 plus chickens. My goal is to get down to 100. roll.png  I have 8 1/2 acres, so I have plenty of room, I have just gotten carried away with my " hobby" .  (Hatching)   So big incubator is off until March 6th. But I have decided what breeds to keep & will only be hatching from those breeds. The rest are for sale &/or will  go to auction.  That chicken # does not include my other feathered ones. th.gif  I have peacocks, pheasants, ducks, geese, pigeons.  Another 67 critters.  barnie.gif

I have 1 horse.  A old (25ish year old) Appaloosa.  love.gif

Mahorni....  I have SFH.  I need to get some pictures. Some hens have big combs.  Mine are 2 & 3 months old.  I still wonder on the younger one, but I think I only have 1 rooster in the older group. hu.gif

I need to pick up batteries, my kids swiped all mine for their remote control cars & junk.  hmm.png
