The price of Capons! - Page 2

So is he going to be the only one eating something different from turkey??. I think it's great that your doing that for him, and he will really like it that your thinking of him. now WTS I think a nice big 6-7lb roaster chicken stuffed and baked, sitting right next to the turkey will be plenty for him, and even enough for plenty left overs for him also. Happy Thanksgiving.

Standard White Cornish, Dark's & White laced Red Cornish Breeder..........If you don't have Cornish you don't have Chickens. Breeding the best, to the best.

I have not kept up with it ,but when I was Ag student we did a lot of caponizeing.Back in the early 60s it was a crude process. The death rate was high like more than 50%..That would make it high priced.Double right there.Surely its not so crude nowdays but I do not know...My 2C ...cva34

wow 50% death rate? Yep, it's better now. In this thread http://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=562184 he says death rate is 1% or less.

Love those Orps!

I don't care why the chicken crossed the road, as long as mine don't!

I would guess the culpret is the thing in turkey that makes you feel overfull... maybe that's it.. maybe he just eats too much of it?

Hi,

I'm a little late but I purchased a capon at a local turkey farm (they raise all kinds of poultry) and I paid $2.49 a pound for an 8 pound bird.  It was extremely tender and delicious.  So maybe you can find one that is more reasonable than what you have seen.  Good luck and hope you had a nice Thanksgiving!  smile  Genie

You got a great deal!! I found a frozen one at Food For Less for I think $3.99 or $3.89, it was 9.26 lbs. and close to $40.00. It was excellent and dinner went great. Since there are only my Bro and myself left it was worth it. If the 49ers would have won it would have been perfect!! I'll check out poultry farms direcly next year. Thanks, Marty
