Peahen or Peacock?? - Page 2

If 3 of my 5 chicks turn out to be males, will that be OK?  I mean, will they get along, or will there be problems?  Will they fight over the 2 women?  (They will be free ranging, if that makes any difference.)

Yea it does seem that way. im guessing its because they are gamebird family quails you hatch out are mostly male as well... not sure about pheasants? but good observation...And personally i would rather have males free ranging around, they are much more colorful!!!


Hmmm....  interesting.  Yes, peacocks are way more pretty....  but the hens are the ones that lay the eggs...   that hatch into chicks...  so that you can have more peas (or sell them $!)

odd are 50% 50% on sex.....but thats not in small numbers.......yes they will be fine one peacock will be at the top of the pecking order.

if you are hatching more males ...somewhere someone is hatching mostly females

4 male, 2 female.  I always end up with more hatched males.

Looks like four males, two females. At this age, I'd look at the neck feathers. I also notice that the tail feathers on the males are slightly longer then the females, I'm assuming they're all siblings?

OEGBs, Three Egyptian Fayoumis, Two Silver Leghorns, 2 Sicilian Buttercups, 2 Golden Penciled Hamburgs, EEs,production reds, Cornish Xs and red broilers,a Doberman, a teenaged chihuahua and a papillon, one TB gelding (rescue), and my matriarch Paint mare with her daughter and son (gelding), plus one wonderful husband who puts up with me
