Hubby avoids my bator like the plague as well.  He says it smells funny.  (whatever)

And I'm hoping the geese will make hawks think twice before swooping down for a snack.

i havent seen any hawks really.

we havent had very many this year yet.

they watch the sky pretty close tho.

and even with their wings clipped they can still fly a little bit,

mine are currently penned up tho.

i also have the same hope for my geese. i would like them to freerange atleast some of the time.

I didn't have any problems with hawks during the summer, so maybe I'll just need to keep them penned in the covered run during winter.

Geese will sound alerts, but won't protect a flock from predators. Ours are the first to alert, but it doesn't stop the hawk fly by. The Great Pyrenees and goats however, the hawks avoid the pastures they happen to be in.

I like the runt.  LOL.  They are precious!  I'm going to let the girls pick out which one they want.  Once they get their eyes open and have a personality it will be easier!

i know they will not protect from a hawk

but the hawk may think twice before trying to take one.

maybe it will atleast get them to pick an easier target (like the dumb guineas)

Ok, guys.  It's almost the end of day 29 and there's nothing happening.  Is it time to pip for them?  If so, should I up the humidity?

So many things have happened in the last 6 months...

Current standings: 2 guinea pigs, 18 rabbits, 45+ chickens, 4 quail, 2 geese, & 2 teenagers...numbers subject to change

10/12 - hatched 3 ducks, lost 2 quail

3/7/13 - lost/sold 11 guinea pigs, lost/sold 7 rabbits, 6 rabbits born, chicken math/lost count, lost 1 duck, gave away 6 ducks, gave away 3 cats, and 1 teenager turned 18
