It's all good, CG.  We had fun picking out our favorites pics.

My menagerie includes 5 horses, 3 dogs, 4 cats, 32 geese (dewlap toulouse & african) and 10 ducks (muscovy, ancona, cayuga & silver appleyard).

Here is a question for everyone.  Can a fertile egg hatch from being left on the counter?  I have one egg that I think looks like it was possibly developing.  I never turned it because I wasn't trying to hatch from the counter.  All the other eggs on the counter look clear but that one was dark inside except for an air cell.  It is similar to this photo except not as much air cell and the dark part just looked dark.  I just don't want to throw it out if it is developing.

I just wanted to thank everyone on this thread, especially Iain Utah, Marty1876 and JulieNKC, for their help and support with our hatch last week.  Thanks to your advice, we had a successful hatch, and now we have a healthy duckling in the brooder.

Here are some pictures of the hatch!

Congrats on the duckling!

I think I grabbed that egg right away... or at least the same day.  But we have a sky light that can have light shine on the counter on sunny days.  Well maybe I will put it under the broody hen and see what happens.

Hi Everyone - just wanted to update you guys...  our first little pekin egg has broken through the shell.  It has a hole about the size of a nickel now from starting about 3 hours ago...

I have another newbie question:  What happens when ducks cross breed say a pekin and a khaki campbell or a pekin and a cayuga?  Do you get a mixed looking duck or do one of the genes dominate?

Thirdly, I have one egg that I think has two babies.  It seems to be getting larger too or maybe it is my imagination.  I haven't seen a lot of positive outcome for multiples.  Here's a picture of some eggs during this morning's candling.  It is the egg on the left.  From left to right I think the eggs should be pekin (possible double yolk), pekin, buff, snowy, snowy and west india.  We do have more male ducks than females right now...

Two horses, two dogs, Russian tortoise, Roman tufted goose, cayugas, pekins, snowy mallards, mallards, black east India, khaki campbell, buff, black runner ducks.  Our most famous bird - Albert our swimming turkey (RIP)

It depends on what color is behind the white in the pekin. Could be all sorts of different colors, black, blue, gray, etc.

I sold my last four runner ducklings! Now all I get to keep is three pekins. I really wanted to have one or two from my first hatch, but honestly, I did intend to sell ducklings, so I have to sell ducklings!

Next hatch day should be April 11th. I'm setting aside my keepers this round. fl.gif

Had two BEI's candle clear. Had three blood rings.

Got 24 of 28 runners, 11 of 16 BEI's and 2 of 2 goose! fl.gif

Bator 2 is full. Going to have to wait a few more days for candling since I set on Thursday. fl.gif

Ebay bidding announcement... I am bidding on the silver appleyard eggs sold by dprather.  There is another bidder p****p.  Hope I'm not bidding against any of you, because I need duck eggs to set with my new toulouse eggs, and hubby wants SA instead of cayuga!!!

Hatching announcement:  5 of the ancona eggs have beaks against shell, getting ready to externally pip.  3 more look to be internally pipping still.  3 are unsure so they are in goose bator so I can keep an eye on them.  Lockdown has officially begun and I am raising humidity to 70+% now.  So far, everything looks great!

Goslings insisted on coming inside once it got dark, even with heat lamp on outdoor pen. But as soon sun rises, they go back outside... as they are beating the crap out of each other when they get bored.
