We love our beautiful Cream Legbars! We currently have 13 of these amazing birds. Our oldest hen lays 5-6 blue eggs a week! The best part to me, though, is that you can sex these birds at...
I like my Silkies. The hens are sweet and one of mine has been very broody lately. My rooster is VERY aggressive- despite being hand raised. He attacks me, my husband, and my sweet 80lbs dog (who...
I love LOVE love my Brahmas. They lay large, nicely shaped, light brown eggs. They get along with all my other breeds- even though they are the largest. I have 2 white/black that I bought as...
I have the white Babcock strain. I also have a few brown leghorns which are georgous and very sweet. They are beautiful, very classy looking birds. Great egg layers. They can be a little...

Urg! Bad day here! Went outside to find all the ducks there, EXCEPT the rouens! they ran away!.... Why though.

My goslings turned one month old on Friday... and like it is some sort of magical date... they turned into monsters!!! lol I'm kind of sad to part with No. 1, as he is a sweetie towards me, but he is better off with his buddies and new parents.
The oldest set of ducks will probably get moved to horse property coop this week too. It makes me very nervous because the coop is not easily watched from the house, but they will appreciate the space. Besides, I have to make room for all the babies that are getting ready to hatch this week.
My menagerie includes 5 horses, 3 dogs, 4 cats, 32 geese (dewlap toulouse & african) and 10 ducks (muscovy, ancona, cayuga & silver appleyard).
OMG, QJ... you have NO idea! One gosling will walk up behind another and bite its wing, which causes the bitten gosling to clamp down on 1st gosling's neck. The one getting bit will scream nonstop while trying to run away, but the other gosling stays clamped down like a pit bull and runs right along continuing to hold down the neck.
I wonder if it's breed related? I need to see how old Fiona is and watch for weird goosey behavior from them.

Ducks don't typically run away sweetiepie. Are you sure they weren't ... ya know.. victimized?
Don't you have them penned up?
So sorry DG. Maybe they are just hiding?

DG, I'm with QJ. Ducks don't seem like the type to run away.... but they are easy victims of all sorts of predators.
QJ, probably does. These guys are Africans, after all! Assuming my toulouse babies hatch ok this week, I'll let you know in a month how their behavior differs! I tell ya though, if both africans hatch this week, they will get immediately listed for a great price.

That is most unusual behavior, I doubt if they disappeared unassisted. Even QJ's mallards ended up back home, and Rouens are much lazier than that. Either eaton or "borrowed" is my vote. How many, and were they penned alone?
Why don't sheep shrink in the rain?
Why is there brail at drive up ATMs??
Why are their floatation devices instead of parachutes in my airplain seat???
If a tree falls in the woods and my husband doesn't hear it, am I still wrong????

Here are two of my Anconas that hatched yesterday! The one laying down looks dark chocolate. I'm not sure about the one standing up. At first I thought he was all yellow, but around his face he does have some very light brown markings. My daughter named them Pickles and Snuggles. I still have one in the incubator that I helped halfway out, but he wasn't ready. I had one die in the shell yesterday morning and I was afraid the last one would die, too.
Is there anything you can do if you jumped the gun and hatched before they were ready? I rinsed off the bottom of the incubator and put him on a soft cotton cloth and kind of rolled up another one around him. He seems to like to feel snuggled up like that. Is there anything else I can do for him?
