Christine, LOVE the pics!!!!!!!! Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully, I only have to wait another 2 days before I have my own set of ancona babies. droolin.gif

By the way, I have to say that watching my geese guard their babies is actually more entertaining than my bator right now.  I have never seen more loving, protective and doting parents before!!!!

My menagerie includes 5 horses, 3 dogs, 4 cats, 32 geese (dewlap toulouse & african) and 10 ducks (muscovy, ancona, cayuga & silver appleyard).

It's officially named "Early Bird".  We got home just in time to see it hatch out...  this was from a pekin egg.  What does this look like to you guys?  We do have a khaki campbell male and a mallard male but it reminds me of a blue or black swedish.  Would be great, we have lost all of ours to predators.  It's very active and 3 days early... was put in the incubator on 2/29.IMG_5332.JPG

Two horses, two dogs, Russian tortoise, Roman tufted goose, cayugas, pekins, snowy mallards, mallards, black east India, khaki campbell, buff, black runner ducks.  Our most famous bird - Albert our swimming turkey (RIP)

Silly ducks!

I'm Kelly. Married to my enabler, man of my dreams, love of my life, builder of my duck houses. Mom to two awesome, if not a bit wild, children. Thanks again for all your help and support.  I'm not sure what it is but we will love it all the same, especially since it was born and breed here...  his feet and beak are multicolored too.  It definitely came from one of our pekins.

How long should I keep it in the incubator until moving it to the brooder box?  It is really active.  As well I want to clean up the towel where it hatched but I figured I should wait until he is dry before quickly opening the incubator instead of worrying about him getting into the mess?

Well, he is a very cute cross.  I'd guess a peking x Mallard, unless your swedish was alive and with them 3 weeks or less before you got the egg.  It is definately not a pur Peking, but w/o a peking male, its not possible anyway!  Very cute, I can't wait to see it dry!

Why don't sheep shrink in the rain?

Why is there brail at drive up ATMs??

Why are their floatation devices instead of parachutes in my airplain seat???

If a tree falls in the woods and my husband doesn't hear it, am I still wrong????

I have put the "babies" in with the teenagers.  So everybody is outside with the exception of Fiona and her friends.  I bring her in at night.

I got 2 duck eggs this morning so Mallard is for sure laying.  (She had stopped for a week or so.) BUT the weird thing is, I can't tell their eggs apart anymore.  Rosalee's eggs are getting bigger and less blue.  So that kinda sucks.

Also.. I went out this morning to 4 HUGE hawks circling my yard.  None of them landed.. but they were so big.  So big.   They are eyeing Fiona.  I just know it.

I think that's it.  It's gorgeous outside here!!!!

darn Hawks... I have bird netting over all my pens

It's official.... the goslings are not returning to indoor pen.  It is crazy the way they are going at each other, which I assume is for dominance (like horses).  They need the extra space and outside stimulation.  Plus, I'm tired of hearing them scream.  Since there is a quick moving snow storm coming in late tonight/early tomorrow, I told hubby we can either canvas tarp the pen and leave in front yard or move pen into garage... but they are not coming back into the house!  The geese are in love.  They can have them!

Teenagers are all the same  human, beast or fowl. Gotta show who's biggerhu.gif

Its so nice that he's going to make it.  He is doing just great.  Totally healthy now, like the last day and a half never happened.  He's certianly

caused me more trouble that other duck hatches, but I guess we'll just have to spoil him/her.

No, the swedish have been gone for a while so not a part of this breeding.  Another thing is the tips of the wings are yellow.  So should we wait for him to totally dry to remove from the incubator or wait until tomorrow?  He has not slept since hatching a few hours ago... just keeps moving around.  He almost follows us through the incubator windows asking to come out!  We have other eggs incubating that are due in 2 days so I want to remove him and his mess properly to not mess them up.
