ok so i broguht in aall the eggs.

4 from under the red hen in the barn

and 10 from the black hen in the shed.

i have a couple ext pips but nothing big.

and all but 1 was internally pipped.

i decided to give everyone an ext pip.

the ones that had 1 i opened it up a tiny big more.

EVERY BLEEPING egg was shrink wrapped. he.gif

and i dont mean just a little. i mean sheet white papery internal membrane.

so i opten to help the one that wasnt internally pipped last.

he was shrink wrapped 2!!

so i ext pipped him and int pipped him 2.

he literly gasped for air.

im glad i helped him.

i now have a bator full of lively peeping eggs.

i dont mind helping but its just frusterating.
sundays hatch had 15 eggs incubated by hens.
all 15 were shrink wrapped (i save every duckling but 3 died from leg issues)
now these 14 were also incubated by hens (granted all eggs were under chicken hens not ducks)
but stilll come on 29 eggs shrink wrapped and not even inucubated in the incubator!!!

its a zoo here:

12 call duck....2 geese -1 female saddleback pom. ....1american buff.

10 peafowl chicks <3

2 bantam cochins....

5 silkie hens and 4 splash juvis....

6 goats.....2 ponies....3beef cows.

an african grey parrot....2 fish tanks...

6hermit crabs... 3 betas... a turtle

and some guineas (all ages)

I've been wondering if dry hatching is not the way to go this year?  ARGH!

CG...are you using 25 days, or 26 days as your due date on the Calls?  I want to make sure I catch mine in time....

kinda both. i start candling them at day 24. and wat for int pips.

and ive figured out that its usually 24 hrs after int pip that they make an ext pip.

if not then ive figured out (with mine atleast)

that they are stuck.

and then i give them another 24 hours after ext pip to make progress.

so far ive only had 1 duckling hatch all on its own. it was under a chicken hen. and it was extremely warm and humid out.

but right now its chilly and very low humidity outside.

and that is out of 33 that i have had hatch.

Ok...so they are shrink wrapping after internal pipping?  Or at least while they are starting to internally pip?  See....I've hatched and helped a lot of goose eggs, but they had all pretty much ext. pipped and stopped.  The membranes were, in retrospect, shrink wrapped.  The eggs that didn't ext. pip, and died, in retrospect, were also shrink wrapped.  I didn't realize the issue, so I didn't know I could help them in such a situation if they weren't int. pipped.  I'm just trying to be ready to help mine....I'm good at assisted hatching, just not sure about when to help internally.

yes they are for some reason shrink wrapping once they internally pip.

i still dont understand why .

well you wont hurt them by making an external pip in the shell so that you can see what is going on .

if you think they are struggling make an external pip and peak in the shell . if they are shrink wrapped  then you need to moisten the membrane with a qtip and warm water.

just make sure you keep up humidity up really high!

Are they under a chicken? Maybe go ahead and bring them in at lockdown instead of waiting for pipping, I don't think broody hens get their humidity high enough for calls. Good luck! And my bandaid shoes fell off my turkey after an hour, and he's been up on his own running so I think he just needed an extra day.smile.png

yes they were under a broody .

i thought about that idea. i think i will try it next time.

but even the 1 baby who hadnt internally pipped yet was shrink wrapped.

but o well i dont mind helping .

its just frusterating.

and thanks for helping her out. i wasnt sure how you did the bandaide shoes.

glad your turkey is ok.

and on the upside it looks like these eggs have some different colored babies.

some of them have light beak with a dark stripe down the middle.
