qj as long as the fence is secure the goats would be fine with the cows, our go out with the ponies.
and the BUCKS (lol) arent really mean . they just stink horribly. the pee on themselves (yes im being serious) and it makes thems mell horrible. they are nothing like sheep rams.
another good milk goat is nubians. i LOVE them they are soo nice and great milkers (plus come in the biggest variety of colors)
and the egg problems i think it is bcuz of using chickens plus there is very little humidity in the air.
Running goats in a pasture requires woven fence, or electric fence. If there's a hole in the fence, a goat will find it. The little breeds like Nigerians and Pygmies are the worst for climbing fences. Goats are browsers, not grazers, and will eat weeds and underbrush first before choosing grass. They love poison ivy...go figure! The bucks have a very musky smell that comes from glands by their horns, and sometimes they can be burned while disbudding in order to keep scent down. Then they add to that musky smell with pee. But...the does want stinky bucks, lol. I have had does turn down bucks that weren't as smelly as others.
As far as bucks making milk taste bad, I think that's an old wive's tale. I can't prove, or disprove that as I always took the buck to the doe that was in heat...bucks were penned separate. What they consume affects taste and quality, for sure.
Aww...love the babies!
Oh no....I hate that about runts ![]()

Hey Quackers!
I have been researching goats too ! You & I are too funny. I use it to feed my puppies when they are born. & I am a dork when it comes to research, So I have been looking at ~ Keep, Care, Size, Feed, Cream content, temper, resell value to... etc.
I was looking at
Toggenburg
Oberhasli
Nigerian Dwarf crossed with a Toggenburg
http://www.ansi.okstate.edu/breeds/goats/
I want to make soap, cream cheese, butter, & other goodies !
I had a friend that raised and showed Toggs....their milk was not very tastey at all...even when used in ice cream and such....very strong taste. They are also very large in size. The Obers are smaller, with good milk and the Nigerians are very small. Nigerian/Nubian crosses make for a nice medium sized goat with excellent milk and lots of butterfat...as does the Nubians.

Sometimes you just have to go straight to the end and say, "What'd I miss?"

. Somehow it jumped into the kiddie pool and either couldn't get out or it was pushed under by a bigger duck

so wish i lived closer!
