We have been in town all day and just got back, my Call duck male is throwing his head over backwards and falling over??? They have not been free ranging, but have been locked up in a run, they have only been given chick starter (all I have available). I recently read that that the chick start lacks something that the ducks need more of or something. Could he just be deficiant in something? Please help I do not know what to give him? I do not really have anything for waterfowl to treat him with. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Is there anything I can give him, and what do I need to give the other ducks so they will not get the same thing? THANKS FOR ANY HELP!

~ Aspen

Has he always eaten chick starter, or is this something new?  Is it medicated?

ETA:  This is an adult drake, not a duckling, right?

Yes, an adult drake.

Okay, sorry about the other post, it was confusing and I was very upset. We mixed up some yeast in some good drinking water (the water we drink) and put an egg yolk in the mix and mixed it up and gave it to all of them and when I left they were drinking it. Hopefully that will help. Since my Call ducks can fly we do not really mess with them a whole lot as they are not the friendliest ducks we do not take them to the garden with us as they will run off, unlike the ducklings. However, we are going to clip their wings tomarrow and then start training them how to eat bugs. I do not think they've ever eaten one. I researched a bit about the 'stargazing' thing, and since we wil go to TSC tomarrow I'm going to look around and see if they have any of the medicine they need. Please keep your finger's crossed for my boy, Daffy!

Oh, if I start mixing yeast into their crumbles will that take care of the problem, or do I also need to give them water with medications in it? They have a kitty pool filled up with water in their run, and I usually do not give them water at night as they usually just spill it. Also, can I go ahead and start giving the ducklings yeast in their food?

One more thing while we are on the topic of feeding/watering. I have been giving my ducklings a little bit of ACV in their water, I do the same for my baby chicks, ACV doesn't hurt the ducks  will it? It's supposed to be very good for just about everything. I just wondered about it as I'd been giving them some.

Thanks ahead of time, and sorry for all the questions. : )

OH, forgot tot mention my addiction got the better of me today and I brought home six new ducklings. Awwwww

im going to give them another day or 2 on their own then move them in with the ither monsters.

which by the way the monsters have discovered the bliss of water.

sjhdlgkdjhfgkdhdipfh.

yay for me.

and i cant use a bowl like i want to .

a butter bowl is too tall for them.

but the little bowl i have doesnt last them long!.

so they get a real waterer, and they do nothing but play in it!

oh and the goose brooder is so clean without the ducks.

the water is still clear.

the food dish doesnt have poop in it.

and they eat much much less.

My two weaklings improved enough to go to the brooder today too!

I thought I was going to have the opposite problem. But in the end, it worked out. One buyer moved their date to next week and one backed out so I had enough to give the other buyers.

LOL. I used to really like that area. Now I stay away at all costs.

What a super-long day! th.gif

My hubby has been so awesome at taking care of my ducklings while I've been working. He babied along my two weaklings and when I came in tonight, there were no duckies in the hospital. I thought at first the clumsy one had died, but there it was clumsily running around with the others. Little one has finally figured out how those legs work! celebrate.gif

Three more ducklings went to their home today. The buyer was on my way on my long errands today, so I dropped them off. The buyer raises mini goats, mini horses and now mini ducks. Another good home!
