Ok this Taste of the Wild says "Grain-Free" on it. They had a couple different flavors. I got the one that is "Pacific Stream". The first ingredients are Salmon, ocean fish, sweet potatoes. And the protein is 25%.
I mix it with a canned puppy blend called "Retriever" (I think its a TSC brand) I'll google that.
It says Protein is 9%.
Then I got something called "4-Health Puppy Growth and Development Biscuits". The protein on that is 21%. But wait.. I just read the small print and it says, not for puppies under 4 months of age. Hmmmmm...
Does that all sound good?
Sorry about my new found interest in dog food.
The only reason I mentioned a "LARGE BREED" puppy food is they are specially designed for their growing bones/joints. Its not about the crude fat/protien as much. What happens is when you a feed a puppy food, it is chocked full of high nutrients which makes the puppy grow, now if you feed a large breed food they have inn addition.... Gluc in it for the joint/bone care of the puppy as well as (the most important) a GROWTH INHIBITOR which means it makes the puppy grow gradually & evenly, so all the nutrients don't cause the joints to prematurely shoot up, and can cause hip/joint issues. Kinda like when you see "the awkward phase in puppy growth... when they are gangly" This is avioded because they mature at a proper time frame & don't shoot up fast. my 2 cents
Easier to explain via phone
So it is in the best interest to feed a Labeled LARGE BREED puppy food for at least the first 6 months, but optimum is a Year, before putting them on adult.
The only treats my dogs get are Cow Knuckle Bones (raw & frozen) & Pig ears, Pig Hearts, hooves, etc. Thems some yummy morsels for my pooches & I have Never Treat trained.
Quackers I have a puppy handbook I give out to my puppy peeps, if you want a copy I can email it to you, it have a plethora of useful tidbits....
