I'm gonna try to assist this baby... hope he can do most of it himself .... pictures next time I work on the egg ![]()

i use a milk jug with a hole cut in the side, as they grow i move the hole up and make it a bit bigger. this prevents them from swimming in the water and making a huge mess

The duckling who needed to absorb her yolk is up walking around the incubator.
Still not fluffed yet, she's been hanging out on a paper towel I've got in there for humidity so she's staying pretty wet. I've got 3 external pips, one that pipped last night and hasn't done anything since. I plan on starting to help them if they haven't progressed any themselves early afternoon, whenever I can get the kids to take a nap.

Thanks, bakin!!!!!!
Here is the irony to my buff dewlap & silver apple situation. While my new duckling/gosling duo get along famously, my buff is still overly imprinted on me. So, instead of having to carry around one baby with me 24/7, I now have 2 babies that are attached to my hip.
on no
at least they are cute
good luck with the others!

Dutch, looks like a very healthy baby in the first pic!!
QJ, not sure yet, but it is a cutie! It is a lighter than my other one and looks a lot better after he got a much needed bath. The seller got part of his SA stock from the same guy you got your eggs from (the ebay guy from Kentucky). He couldn't remember the name of where he got his other SA eggs, except that they came from Pennsylvania.
He had a very nice community set-up in his backyard with silver apple ducks, white midget turkeys (those were so flippin' cool looking, by the way), cotton patch geese and black chickens (no clue about chicken breeds, but he was all about "heritage" breeds.... so I imagine it was a nice breed).
sounds like a beautiful variety of birds

Yeah, I have a Runner drake that thinks he's a goose, so I'm used to the identity crisis, lol. She has white Calls due to hatch on the 27th, bout the time mine is due...but I really didn't want another color. She has 3 or 4 partridge silkies, and I love that color....the silkie eggs I have coming on Friday are B/B/S and buff. I'm trying to stay with something I already want, or need....and silkies fit the bill. Decisions, decisions. Guess I could always sell the white Calls later. I know....I'll get both!!! ![]()
get both

First baby starting to fluff up now. There is another that looks like her, one that looks like it'll be a gray, and one that looks black pied/bibbed. One egg has internal but not external pipped so I can't see what's in there, another hasn't internal pipped (I think, but I thought it had internal pipped yesterday?) but still is moving all around so I'm letting it be.
so pretty!
i have 2 drakes and they were hatch buddies and never really fought with each other, but i am slowly trying to add more hens by next year i should have a really good amount

what cuties!

Today is a big day! We finally turned out our goslings with our adult ganders. As expected, alpha gander had a few gos at the other gander. Hubby and I were watching over, prepared to protect the babies, but the babies would come running to us for safety when the fights would break out. Eventually alpha gander sent his message to the other gander and then proceeded to sweetly love on and gently teach babies manners. We creeped away and left them on a field of fresh grass with water, and after watching them from a distance, believe our integration has been a success!!!
how old are the goslings, my WH females are 8 weeks old and i am just wondering if it would be safe to let them out of the pen with my adult drakes
beautif birds, i love the look on the drakes face!

We are locking down 3 runners and 1 Ancona
Hopefully No SW
. Already have these babies sold provided they hatch okay.
Went for a trail ride today, finally got to haul the mares off to an actual horse park instead of riding around the dirt roads. Had a blast.....saw lots of deer, got lost on the trail, and had a great training opportunity with my mare that does not like to stand still when you stop her. One of the best lake views out there is from the back of a horse. I took a few pics, will try to put some up later.

wish it would get sunny here, so i could take mine out to play!

Sorry for the onslaught of pics!!!
Sold 3 more chicks today for $40 !![]()
& tomorrow I have Turkey Babies & some more Anconas going home!
All $$ goes to vacation in June now! NO MORE EGGS IN THE BATOR !!!!!
I just got around to uploading & shrinking them all ![]()
mama with her babies
what a good mommy

3 Welshies went to live on the farm today. They are living in a crate in the big brooder with the meat chicks. I would have set them loose but those meat chicks doubled in size since Friday and I was afraid duckies would never get anything to eat. I'm a bit worried about them. Not because they won't be well cared-for, but because I don't get to see them again until tomorrow.
Locked down the first batch of eggs from my own ducks. Come on, babies! Make me proud!
Set two silkie duck eggs. Maybe I'll get lucky.
good luck with your own eggs!

Can I just vent for a sec? you know that "friend" that I watch her baby for her sometimes? Well, yesterday she drops her off in the morning and then I find out later she took the day off work.
Can someone explain why I'm watching her kid when she took the day off? Anyone? And can someone explain why my husband has to come home from work early to watch said baby, so I can take my daughter to her first softball game? That my husband missed because he was watching her kid? Really?
I'm done with friends. Friends are only friends until they take advantage of you. I'm tired of the whole "oh she stays at home, she can watch my kid."
Hey people on here .... Don't ask me to watch your kids!! I don't want to !!! I want to watch mine and sometimes I don't even want that!
she is oviously not a true friend if you feels ok treating you like that!

People do suck! They drain me. My animals keep me sane...or at least, somewhat sane...as sane as I can be I guess

See, I feel that way. I have been a single mom for more years than I have a married one. I manage my kids, and my schedule...I wouldn't want to manage someone else's. And I'm responsible for managing it. No way would I dump on someone. She was way out of line today, QJ. I would put an end to it, right then and there. Friendship is supposed to be golden...she has tarnished your's.
Toss that hussy to the curb!
i am not a single mom and never have been but i agree 100%

woke up today and it sounds like theres a party in the bator =)
only 1 baby still attached to his egg. everyone is scootchin or tryin to .
a couple are scootchin pretty good.
i went out on the porch to check everyone and got a dirty look from the silkies bcuz i woke them up. and the baby duck just looked at me funn.
and the munchkins watched for treats lol.
aby and amelia walked the fenceline with me honking, telling me how their night was... and then took of flapping their wings.

Here are my cuties. Think my black magpie might be blue looking at the pics, but she is darker in person.
3 more in the incubator who should be ready to come out late this afternoon I think.

My one month old duckling was abandoned by its mom last night (she has started going broody again I think). So the duckling was with the other duck hen and her several day old babies trying to pretend it was as small as them. It was so cute running around with its head low to the ground trying to look small with the little babies. The hen was not tricked.
If it is the one in the middle it looks like it could be a blue. They are all cute
Bakin, my goslings will be 9 weeks old on Friday. We started with keeping them in enclosed pen in garage for a few weeks and the adults bonded through fence and guarded their pen. Then we moved them over to the coop on our horse property, still separating them from adults with a fence. A few days ago, I let the adults into the fenced area, and the adult ganders got into a huge fight.... but the babies had the good sense to stay out of the way. So yesterday, I took the babies out of their fenced area and walked them over to a nice patch of grass where adults like to hang out in the afternoons (I'm momma goose and the babies stay close to me), while hubby watched my back with his "goose be good stick". When we knew that it was safe, we left them. When we returned at nightfall, the adults had the babies at bottom of pasture by the pond (where the adults sleep at night), but as soon as I called from them... all the babies with the adults in tow, ran their little butts all the way back to me, and went straight into their coop without a 2nd thought for leaving the adults. We hope to follow this routine for another few weeks, until babies are fully feathered and weather is warmer, then they can stay outside 24/7 with the adults.
