Maybe you should raise laying flocks, and trade hens/young roos/eggs for sections of their meat animals, that may even be sitting in a freezor.  If you can't cull, raise what they want, and swap for it.  Call local grocery stores, expalin what your after, and offer to buy markdown meats before they toss them, at rock bottem prices.  Offer to buy what they drop, whats green on an edge, watch for great prices, order chicken backs and necks (the cheapest parts) in qty, or pigs feet in qty, or whatever crazy thing they are selling cheap.  You might call meat packing plants (big ones) or other local factories that produce meat foods, and see what they can sell you off the floor, or out of the corners, and etc.

Why don't sheep shrink in the rain?

Why is there brail at drive up ATMs??

Why are their floatation devices instead of parachutes in my airplain seat???

If a tree falls in the woods and my husband doesn't hear it, am I still wrong????

I have a few neighbors I'm sure could help me with this. I just hope I can find a reasonable place for meat such as local farms. I could help support local bussinesses as well as feeding my animals. A win win

Helen: Daria, do you have to look at everything in such a negative light?

Daria: Could you possibly be referring to the harsh light of reality?

Kevin,  have you considered helping at a local farm (with things your comfy with, like feeding or shoveling poo) in return for meat for your dogs, instead of pay?  You maybe able to work out something that route.  Call  a local dairy farm, and offter to feed calves, and muck barns, in return for a bull calf at the agreed upon amt of hours.  Or a goat, or.....  Our local dairys sell bull calves for 100-150 a pop, but in 3 monthes, its just big enough for about 250++ of meat/bones that are sized good for full consumption by dogs, and only requires a bullet and above mentioned tools, to convert this into happy dogs.

If you work all summer, you maybe paid in a beef calf, a steer ready to go.  Have an agreed upon amt per hour in trade value, and a set amt per lb for beef calves or steers, or whatever your trading for.  You want to get your fair pay, after all.
