Nothing juicy here on this end. Lots of activity on the poultry end but I'll spare you the bad details.
How are the pups?

Julie- No camera yet. Haven't been to Walmart to try a new chip. I even tried hubby's chip in my camera and that didn't work. I think the motherboard is shot. But it's a great excuse to buy a new one. ;)
Hubby is bringing home his work camera tonight. It's a really good one and they'll be fluffed up then. They are so cute. They have the mallard face/head, but the ancona feet. One even has the mallard eye stripe but is all black. So precious.
they sound adorable =)

Ancona egg is beginning to zip.. maybe it will be out later tonight! Can't wait to see it!
Just talked to hubby, he's going to help me make something to separate the ducks this weekend. Although he isn't completely sure what the reason is for that. I can tell. (eye roll and laugh all in one).

Well, you get used to it when you are a native to Tornado Alley. And probably 80% of the tornadoes that come through my area do so around sunset and after dark. I've even been in one, myself, but that was a daytime one and really really bad. I didn't get a lot of rain, since I was sort of in the middle of the line of storms. They were flooding up north because they had already been hit on Sunday, and had received 12 inches of rain in 30 hrs.
I'm sorry you keep having to mess with the paperwork....makes me feel like a pest ![]()
I've got to change the brilliant one's bandages again today....I'm growing very weary of bandage changes! Takes me about 15-20 minutes to re-wrap him. He's coming along, but I see at least another month of wrapping before I can even think of switching to open wound healing. ![]()
Yep, went back to bed after I posted earlier ![]()

i let everyone out today and was trying to get the guineas out and keep the chickens in so i could put my silkie girls in with them .
i stepped in the chicken house and notice something doesnt look right,
i look all around and no red rooster
![]()
i searched the barn for him.
behind the shed.
i have no clue what happened to him.
i dont remember even seeing him yesterday (i kno that sounds horrible but on nice days they stay out in the field all day . other than the hens come up one at a time to lay)
now im stuck with this plain black rooster.

i woner if i could talk grandma into a pretty splash rooster? orrrr maybe i can keep one of my silkie chicks that end up being a rooster
Awwww...sorry he's MIA. ![]()
I should get them in the morning....I've been tracking their progress, lol.

so i dont kno if you guys will know but when it comes to silkie chicks.
will a blue chick look the same as a splash chick?
or would you be able to tell a major difference?
bcuz the hens where i got my chicks from .
there was a splash and a buff hen. and a red rooster.
so im wondering what collor these chicks will be?
A blue chick will be dark and look blue....a splash chick will sort of look silver. You should be able to tell the difference. Out of those colors, your guess is as good as mine. With splash you have to follow the B/B/S genetics, and in that mix, there is no blue or black or splash parents. Do you have a pic of the group of chicks so we can see their color?
My Seb goose was setting on 8 eggs last year, and somehow a chicken got the chance to add an egg to her nest. The chick hatched a week before the goslings, without issue. I didn't know it was there till it hatched, and it amazed me that she didn't crush it with the other eggs. She wasn't very happy that I took her chick, but I certainly didn't want her leaving her nest for a chick!

Typical guy who knows he's attractive. Sheesh.
ain't that the truth!

No...I gave up girly nails several years ago. But, for some reason, I've been itching to paint them lately. What I hate is thinking I have them dry, go to bed, and wake up the next morning with sheet imprints on them...
I guess you could call that a textured paint job...
i have too! but once in a while i get the itch, all this talking has made me want to do mine

i'm kinda afraid to add mine up and only 2 are from last year and they a meeting freezerland today!

My chicken was doing great until about 4pm today. She was eating and moving her wings and legs a little. Gave her a bath, got some blue kote and some medicine stuff.. can't remember what it's called. Got some DE. Got her all cleaned up, can't find any maggots on her at all.. Then she started going downhill again. Now she's just resting and doing this weird thing with her neck. Not breathing funny.. just stretching her neck out and then back in. Her eyes are closed now completely.

I'm bummed tonight because I found one of my little Serama roosters dead. He seemed fine earlier and then was dead when I got home from work. I'm wondering if my Swedish drake hurt him. He's so ornery, but I thought the chickens would be OK because they are faster and can fly up to perch above the ducks.
I took my hen out of there and brought her in the house for the night. She was huddled up in their house next to his dead body.
poor girl!

It was a rough night here....I was up till almost 3am watching tornadoes bouncing around all over the place. I wasn't going to go to bed till the storms passed in case the power went out and I had to go into incubator survival mode. Most of the tornadoes stayed about 50 miles north of me, thank goodness. Reports are that they weren't big tornadoes and damages weren't too bad. No one hurt bad, but there was some major flooding in areas, with people being rescued from flooded homes. I got some much needed rain...some hail, ugh, and some major lightening and thunder...I mean major lightening! I'm really amazed my electric did nothing more than blink on and off once. ![]()
stay safe!

bad day with chickens today!

very cute!
those girls are gonna be all mixed up
bet the pics will look super cute though
hubby would be more against me getting more than he was before
ps he still hasn't notice the new ones, he did think it was odd a couple were starting flight training now

Ok UPDATES: Chicken is still breathing. I'm shocked. But I think she'll go sometime today. She is very comfy and doesn't appear to be in any pain. Still watching the others to make sure all is well. I think this was an isolated freak thing. We all know how Chicken Luck goes.
Hatchings: I have one mallard x ancona that hatched early early this morning. It is super cute. Black with a yellow bib. And tiny like a mallard. 2 more will be out by this afternoon including backwards pipper who has not needed any help at all. :)
The 2 ancona eggs have both pipped and won't be out until tmw at least.
Beaker is laying!! So that's neat. Gotta find a way to separate them now. I saw mallard doing the hanky with ancona. We can't have that.
and congrats on beaker
