We have been using the 3 Gallon Little Giant unit for about a year and a half. Our local co-op got these in for us at a bulk price. The lady we deal with at the co-op told us we really needed...
I installed the door, photo sensor and solar panel last year. Once I got it set up it has worked flawlessly ever since. The only small problem I had was getting the connections to the battery to...
I can't say I have a ton of experience, but I do have a nine day old Mallard duckling named Pyrrhos(getting her some companions on Friday or Saturday). She is very talkative, but I don't mind the...
If these waterers aren't fairly level they leak -- that's pretty obvious. We don't have a lot of flat level spots in our chicken areas, so decided to hang our waterers and let gravity level them...
I bought and installed several of these at one time and they all leaked right away. I removed one and took it back to the feed store where I bought it to ask for advice, and was told I wasn't the...
Chicken, I thought it was weird too!! When hubby told me that the b/w was getting picked on last week, I didn't believe him. I kept saying it must just be blood heavy in their wings but he got mad at me, saying he knows what fighting/aggression looks like vs. typical blood/wing stage. Much to my surprise, I saw the aggression myself today. I'm not sure if it is one specific blue doing the bullying as I have 4 blues and they looked alike to me in the moment.
Also in ducky land... what gives with my oldest ones not ever wanting to leave the coop and go outside??? Even when I put water outside, they go out only long enough to drink, then scurry right back inside coop. It's a nice day outside... why don't they want to enjoy it??so
Sounds like some of my silkies (chicken)...... such barbie dolls they don't want to leave the barn.
I have had this with my Khakis. More nervous breeds tend to find a goat to pick in the group. I usually take it and another one of simililar dispositioin, and keep them as buddies for a week, to heal and grow w/o bullies present. Then, off the lights, and put the babies back in. Feed them well, and its usually over. Of course, by then I've got them in bigger pens. I try to have my ducks in 4 sq ft per bird by 3 weeks. They need lots of space.
Sweet.... sounds like a good plan to keep silver apple with the b/w ancona in separate pen for a week.
As for dimensions, their pen is approx. 15ft by 4ft. There were 7 ducks in it.
My menagerie includes 5 horses, 3 dogs, 4 cats, 32 geese (dewlap toulouse & african) and 10 ducks (muscovy, ancona, cayuga & silver appleyard).
Chicken u brreeed the millie fleur cochins 2
Now im really drooling. Hahha
Yep, We just got them this year. Our first set are getting to be close to laying age. The roo has been breeding the little pullets for a while and now the girls are really starting to get some nice red color to their combs so they are probably less than a month from point of lay now. Our second batch is still quite young yet but looking good.
Jaz, if the cap and saddle babies vent sexed all male then they are grey dilutes. Those are from Lisa's pair yes? 4&6 being from Kim confirms my thoughts on light colored Sebbie. They will need a gander their color or a good quality grey gander to throw good colored babies. Sebastopol genetics are completely different from ducks when it comes to color.
If you plan to run all four boys next breeding season be ready to have many fenced pastures to keep them away from each other. Ganders will have huge battles if left together. They can result in major injures or death. You also can not control genetics for color and future breeders.
We sold the babies hatched from Lisa's eggs, the heads were off for breeding. The family here doesn't mind though they wanted pretty pets.
Watch their protien intake closely to avoid twisted wing tip (not the same thing as angel wing and is not correctable). There are feelings that genetics along with too high protein lead to it. Breeding curl x curly also can increase chances.
