I hope so. She's a midget white, so not a whole lot bigger than a big chicken so I think it might work. I have 2 that are going on lockdown today, so she wouldn't be on them long. Then I'll have a turkey with tiny sizzles, and a sizzle with EE chicks bigger than her.

Hatchings:  I have one mallard x ancona that hatched early early this morning.  It is super cute.  Black with a yellow bib.  And tiny like a mallard.  2 more will be out by this afternoon including backwards pipper who has not needed any help at all.  :)

 

The 2 ancona eggs have both pipped and won't be out until tmw at least.  

 

Beaker is laying!! So that's neat.  Gotta find a way to separate them now.  I saw mallard doing the hanky with ancona.  We can't have that.

Well, you get used to it when you are a native to Tornado Alley.  And probably 80% of the tornadoes that come through my area do so around sunset and after dark.  I've even been in one, myself, but that was a daytime one and really really bad.  I didn't get a lot of rain, since I was sort of in the middle of the line of storms.  They were flooding up north because they had already been hit on Sunday, and had received 12 inches of rain in 30 hrs.

I've got to change the brilliant one's bandages again today....I'm growing very weary of bandage changes!  Takes me about 15-20 minutes to re-wrap him.  He's coming along, but I see at least another month of wrapping before I can even think of switching to open wound healing.

A blue chick will be dark and look blue....a splash chick will sort of look silver.  You should be able to tell the difference.  Out of those colors, your guess is as good as mine.  With splash you have to follow the B/B/S genetics, and in that mix, there is no blue or black or splash parents.  Do you have a pic of the group of chicks so we can see their color? 

 

 

My Seb goose was setting on 8 eggs last year, and somehow a chicken got the chance to add an egg to her nest.  The chick hatched a week before the goslings, without issue.  I didn't know it was there till it hatched, and it amazed me that she didn't crush it with the other eggs.  She wasn't very happy that I took her chick, but I certainly didn't want her leaving her nest for a chick!

Just moved all babies outside. Calls are in the quail's old pen. It has a wire bottom (with plenty of resting spots for their feet) so I figured they'd stay cleaner that way. Besides, it's made with half inch hardware cloth so I know they won't squeeze out anywhere. Turkeys and EE are all together now in a pen in the run. Time for their momma to start laying again, I want some of her babies.  It isn't supposed to get below 70 anytime soon, so I figure it's warm enough now I should only have to bring the ducklings in if it gets cooler than that. Once they are big enough that they won't get lost in the bedding (straw at the moment) they will join everyone else and the sizzle chicks will take over their brooder. Nervous to let the poults out with everyone else, so they will be staying in the brooder pen at least another month.

Oh, and gosling has moved it's bill to my pip I made. It's black, and the gosling looks really dark too. Lot different than my embden when they were babies.

That's what I'm hoping.  I really want Peck to be a boy so he can spread his genes around.    He's one of my favorite colored and personality-wise.  I had to bring him and Cricket back in the house because Cricket was not coping well with my dogs running around their pen and she needed a buddy to come in with her.  I think she had some sort of stroke/spell, because her left side wasn't working right.  She's fully recovered now, so they need to go back out.  Last night I let them swim in the tub.  After I drained the water, Peck went to the edge of the tub and started peeping at me to pick him up.  He doesn't even wiggle - I just scoop him up with one hand.  He likes to snuggle on my lap after a bath.
