Dutch its not like it stays that way for long periods, usually just hours when the rain really comes down, or just for the day & is gone by mornin... But yeppers we get wet here!  This is why I think I am going totally ducky ~ (except for now just a few chicken trios) Ducks & geese at least LOVE the rain & mud!

x2 Brave chickens too, mine would be sitting in the coop pouting. My run floods when it rains hard, but hasn't this year yet. fl.gif Not as much rain as usual  plus I got sick of sinking in mud all the time so made hubby dig a moat around mine to draw the water elsewhere.

Well pour some of that rain down here....I could sure use it here.  We'll be hitting 90 the next two days, too.

Yep, the red bulbs are supposed to stop picking not promote it. I've found though that if you have a bad picker they will just keep doing it..... The only reason I prefer the white bulbs is because the red bothers me..... If it's getting too hot just raise them up. The red is just annoying to me.

We use the ceramic heat emitters, no light of any kind. Keeps things quiet in the brooder house. We do have a red bulb 50watt heat lamp in the house for new hatchlings before we take them outside. Only some can peek at them at night easily.

Not all geese like the rain. Sebastopols can't shed water at all because of the curly gene. They become soaked just like a chicken and need extra shelter attention to escape the rain, wind and cold as needed 24/7. They will go out and play even in snow, but because their feathers don't knit together they chill easily, become wet easily. So daytime shelter from the elements as well as nighttime lock up are both needed.

I would guess the same for silkie ducks since they suffer similar body conditions from the frizzle gene in their feathers where the Sebbies have the curly gene. Both make it to where water shedding is an issue, and the wind can get to their skin easier.
