He said they were all doing great last night & this morning before he left.... This makes me soooo sad
ALL the others that went into homes are doing fine.

I know chickens like I know cars. They have 4 wheels, some are different colors, you put gas in them, I can change the oil and make small repairs. But ... don't ask me the difference between a Ford Focus and a Honda civic. No clue.
i am the same way! up until last year i didn't know how to put air in the tires, but can change spark plugs, oil, and tires

If Ugly is a roo, since he is slow feathering and the girls feathered fast would I get feather sexable chicks from them? If so, ugly might just get to stay and see if he turns handsome like the ugly duckling.
mine was super ugly a a chick, but he is very gorgeous now

I know red can make chickens pick so I use blacklights, but I didn't think ducks usually had that problem.
i heard it makes them less likely to pick at each other

I believe the red bulbs were designed to prevent picking in chicks....the thinking being that if everything looks red, they won't pick at any one thing. If he was using one of those, in a fairly small area, it would get very hot. I know when I first brooded chicks years ago, I killed a few chicks due to too much heat.
i use one of the 250 red in a 4X4 brooder and just raise or lower it to control temp, and mine has never gotten to hot, although i had them in my basement so that could be some of it.
