Ok...I came back with pretty much what I planned on getting when I left here...with a couple additions.

4-partridge silkie chicks, (3 are a couple weeks old, one a couple days old)

2-white silkie chicks a couple days old

an adult pair of partridge silkies (now I have a rooster for all my girls!)

3-white Call ducklings (one had just hatched overnight!)

1-chocolate and white scovie duckling that had better be a girl!  She don't know it yet but she's gonna brood goose eggs for me.

She had lots of waterfowl, but all of her pens were out in the direct sun, with no tarps.  I felt bad for the birds.  It's 90 today, and very humid!   She had American geese in blue and lavender in a small pen, and they were all trying to stand in the one little pool, panting up a storm. 

And I found another bird I'm in love with!!!  Exhibition Rouens!!!  They are like Dewlaps, only in duck form!  They are much heavier than the production Rouens, and calm and slow moving.  She's gonna contact me later in  the summer when she has some juvies available. 

Hey guys, I'd like to comment on my afternoon efforts to bathe my youngsters.  First I took Molasses, my super duck and her utility toulouse buddy for a swim in tub.  They were chill and did their thing, so long as I hovered over tub with my hand in the water.  But god forbid I tried to back away from the tub, because that would trigger them into panic mode. 

Afterward I took Barley, the biggest baby in the world, with his silver apple buddy for a swim.  You'd think I put Barley in scalding hot oil the way he FREAKED and tried to crawl/jump out of tub.  So I picked him up and he literally tried to bury himself in my chest.  Took 5 minutes with him buried in my chest before he calmed down enough and would let me put him down onto floor.  Seriously??

   Natural reactioin, eh?  LOL, at least you don't have to feel badly when nature takes care of its own its way.

I just got home from work, and now I'm up to  5 chickens and 3 ducks hatched between bedtime and now.   The biggest shock was when the funkiest egg, air cell in the middle on the side, and a small egg but from my A+ numero uno Kahki layer, HATCHED OUT UNASSISTED!  I'm telling you, you could have knocked me over with a feather.  It wasn't even pipped or promising this morning.  Thought it was dead.  Just goes to show, I guess.  Go figure, the chickens are all late, but the Khakis are right on time!  I'll get pics soon, but they are all still locked down, and I've gone back to my hands off hatch policy, its just so much less stressfull if I don't peek a lot.  If I see trouble, I'll help, but otherwise I'm just here for the little noisy presents.

They do act quite packish even now. They worked together to try to get a couple squirrels. I honestly think once they are mature (Age 3 for high contents) I'll probably be okay with it. As long as they keep it outside .  I know of a few wolfdog owners who dogs go after a deer they see running and return a few hours later with a bone or two 

Silkie ducklings should be shipping in 10 days! I'm so excited..... I hope they don't have to go with an alternate ship date because I can hardly wait the 10 days.
