Geese rock!!!

Dutch, I cut long pieces of medium thick glossed cardboard 6" tall to fit along edge of bottom half where lid slips on.  Then I mask taped pieces to bottom, creating a good seal.  I then cut v corners about 2" deep on top of cardboard pieces and connected with tape, making a dome, so lid slides down and secures.  Overall, it makes the inside 4" taller and should hold humidity a lot better.

My menagerie includes 5 horses, 3 dogs, 4 cats, 32 geese (dewlap toulouse & african) and 10 ducks (muscovy, ancona, cayuga & silver appleyard).

Oh, you are making this harder...... highfive.gif  Good news though because now you seriously have me thinking about free ranging geese with my horses and of course only dewlap toulouse for me.

Chicken (and everyone else).... I want to put my 5 - 6 week old ancona drakes with my 3 - 11 week old ancona (and one 13 week old cayuga) drakes today.  Should I wait until dark and slip them into coop? Any chance I'm going to open door in the morning to some seriously injured and/or dead youngsters?

highfive.gif  I do lock them up at night, for sure!  I have way too many night-time predators not to.  The geese are easy to train, and herd around.  I'm thinking the dewlaps will be even easier because of their calmer disposition.  I have found my geese don't go under barbed wire, especially if the grass is tall on the other side.  They don't like really tall grass, it seems.  Now, I used to have Americans, and they liked to go to the neighbor's yard and graze, then come back.  They seemed to want to range a little farther, and weren't as calm as my Sebs.  The Sebs on the other hand, stick close.  I'm thinking the dewlaps will be the same way.  Since the Americans have been gone, (2 yrs now) I have not had a Seb go to the neighbor's yard.

My africans are always close by the common feeding area.  I am lucky if they go off even a little ways into the pasture toward the ponds.  My toulouse know their routine well and troop without need for herding back/forth from fenced side yard in the day to their pen in garage at night.
