Any chance I'm going to open door in the morning to some seriously injured and/or dead youngsters?

I personally would wait till day time when they were out in a bigger area. I would just watch them, let them figure out how to get along together and then leave them be until night. By night time they would have already figured out how to get along and should be fine locked up in the coop overnight. The worry I would have about introducing them to the coop is that they wouldn't have as much room to run around and work out flock placement vs having them out in a yard.

Ducks don't really go to sleep like chickens do, so they would still be active at night and would be figuring out flock placement in the coop most likely.

They don't have much of a yard.  It is a run along outside of two sides of coop, which measures 7.5' x 11.5' inside.   Short side of run is about 5 ft wide and long side is about 4 feet.  There is a kiddy pool now where white bucket is in pic.  Should I do all the rotations in the morning then?

My menagerie includes 5 horses, 3 dogs, 4 cats, 32 geese (dewlap toulouse & african) and 10 ducks (muscovy, ancona, cayuga & silver appleyard).

I personally would wait until morning so that they have the most space.  You want the smaller ones that may get picked on to have room to run away if need be.

thumbsup.gif  Good luck Utah.  Hopefully a smooth transition for you.  My boondocker babies have been playing out in the sun all day.  I must go play with them now.  Just had to check in.  LOL

Iain, when you put them all together make sure you also put down chopped greens or treats at the same time. It will distract the current older birds allowing the younger one to look around.
