Mine are outside at 2 weeks(gosling is one week) with a heat lamp at night. It's been around 70 during the day/50 at night here. Once it stays above 60 or they hit 5 weeks(just the calls, regular ducks/geese would be 4 weeks) the heat lamp will come off. I booted the last set out at 3 weeks (oddly enough it was warmer then though) and they did fine.

My goslings get moved to garage between 3-4 weeks old and I turned my africans out 24/7 free range around 8 weeks old.

My menagerie includes 5 horses, 3 dogs, 4 cats, 32 geese (dewlap toulouse & african) and 10 ducks (muscovy, ancona, cayuga & silver appleyard).

UPDATE!! Dewlap eggs #1 & #2 have big beautiful external pips.  Egg #3 (my wonky one) is hitting the shell hard.  #4 & #5 are moving strong too. celebrate.gif

mine are not terribly tame but they like cattle and follow each other in a big mound so they are pretty easy to hatch

Lol. So far I've been working on keeping the geese friendly, and the ducks seem to go along with the geese. My older ones are getting friendlier. my snowy drake even lets me pick him up sometimes.love.gif

Too cute! All these different colors of ducklings makes it hard for me to decide what colors I want, lol. Think I've decided to keep my snowy pair, my blue/black/silver? magpie trio (hoping their babies come out spottier so I can work on my ancona calls), and that leaves my black magpie, grey and pastel drake. Pastel is tiny, going to make a very handsome guy, and I've always wanted a grey drake. Magpie has very nice markings. Want to keep them all, thinking about a bachelor pen. hide.gif They are boys, so won't be loud, and calls so it's not like they are going to eat a bunch. Why are the boys always the pretty ones? Wish I didn't have neighbors and I'd have my breeders in pens and bunches of pretty roos, drakes, and toms out strutting their stuff. tongue.png Probably will sell them though. The guy that bought my snowy drake really really liked the magpies and told me if I decided to sell any of them to email him, and the other 2 are going to be so pretty once they are bigger they'll be easy to find homes for.

i would love to have many more roosters because they are so pretty, but not so sure about drakes this year anyway. oh and i moved the other demoned drake and his mate to my MIL's house and they are loving them! i am kinda sad no more yummy duck eggs, but i should have some laying later this summer and i may get a drake next year or keep one from this batch, still unsure on the sex of 4 of the 5 of the 5 week olds

Bakin, after your drake story, I don't blame you for not wanting any more boys.
