Ok cool.  I just had one break on me during lockdown on my dewlaps.  It stopped showing the 2nd digit for temperature.  That was fun. lol  Lucky I have 3 and switched them out as soon as I opened bator to check on 1st baby.  Otherwise they have been very good to me.

FYI, to those with LG still air bators, I recommend the tweaks I did to mine, especially if hatching goslings.  By adding the cardboard, it sealed the seam where lid connects so dry air was not seeping in at egg level.  I also used viewing window to get in/out of bator and with it being a lot higher than the eggs, it did not cause shrinkwrap like before.  I also found it easier to see all of inside with the extra depth, which was nice.  And finally, I was able to get some sleep after hatching my last two dewlaps without worrying about them hitting their head on heat element.  They had plenty of head room.

The other thing I did different was place my accurite gauge into a soapdish so it was not sitting on floor and getting damp.  Discovered a false reading of almost 5 degrees difference during testing by making that change.

My menagerie includes 5 horses, 3 dogs, 4 cats, 32 geese (dewlap toulouse & african) and 10 ducks (muscovy, ancona, cayuga & silver appleyard).

As I type this, his feet are about half uncurled and stiff leg is getting under him. He can sit up now on his own and walks pretty good in my hands/lap.  He almost can walk without falling.  He also blew fluid out of his lungs and they sound good now. It is like magic to watch him fix himself.

I wish I had his ebay password. I should know by mid-week. There's no hiding hatching eggs around here.

The Anconas are all hatched out and doing good in the brooder. Two of the runner eggs made it to lock down they were internally pipped last night, but were not externally pipping so I made a tiny little hole in the shell for them to continue to get fresh air into the air cell. I suspect SW since my humidity was not perfect the entire time  hide.gif for now I will leave them be because I can still see egg yolk at the bottom of the egg when I candled them.

So what prompted me to move all the eggs over to the chicken incubator was what I found when I candled the eggs that are not due to hatch for a couple more weeks. I had thought that I had the temps all worked out properly, but apparently I was a bit low on temps which is frustrating since I was baking them the week before. I found many dead embryos that had quit developing when they were going strong so to be safe I have moved all surviving eggs over to the chicken incubator including the 2 runners that are in the process of hatching.

he.gif Now I get the pleasure of regulating this incubator again with accurate thermometer and then trying out a test hatch in order to make sure it's going to stay steady.

I will get this fixed eventually tongue.gif

he.gif I've had the same frustration. I was trying to use my smaller hatcher as an incubator and was happy to move the eggs into a hovabator after two days. I couldn't keep it constant.

The two babies with problems were the two that had fluid issues at lockdown.  Wonky was in an 185g egg but hatched out half the size of the others.  I think he had so much fluid inside that he was still crammed and a little malpositioned.  I still can't believe Wonky even hatched, his egg was so messed up.  I kept wanting to toss it during cooking, but he would always be moving super strong inside, so I didn't have the heart to.

I hang onto questionable ones all the time. I had a cayuga that when it pipped, it was leaking fluid out of the pip hole, so I had to go in and open a bigger hole to drain the fluid so ducky could breathe. It's a healthy baby now. hugs.gif

Here's Wonky's feet.  I know it may not look like it, but he is already a lot better!  His leg is now straight and not sticking out back behind him.  The feet are not as tight fisted as they were, and while I was taking pics he stood up and took a few steps without falling.

My chicken eggs are Fertile!  Woo hoo!!

Also finished the duck pen. Separated into 3 sections.  Of course I go out to check on them and the mallards found a way into the ancona side.  (eye roll).   It's an easy fix though.  They went under the board thingy.  Need to build up some dirt there.

That's all..

Happy Mother's Day!!
