Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today - Page 3314

Got back from vacation Tuesday and have spent the last few days cleaning up and getting everything back in order. BTW, NEVER go to the lake with a 1 and 2 year old. Not fun at all. Hubby and 7 year old are still there, will be until tomorrow. I couldn't take it anymore and missed my birdies so packed up and came back early.

Remember my ugly little black EE chick? It has finally got feathers, although still not as much as everyone else. I'm also still clueless as to if it's a boy or girl, but have decided to keep it either way because it's turning into a pretty neat looking chicken. It has a white beard, lol. Anyone want to help guess if it's a boy or girl?

It looks like maybe it's getting saddle feathers but it's comb is smaller and not as pink as my 2 that I know are pullets. And all my EE's have always looked like they have saddle feathers, so I really don't know, lol.

Undefined comb (not a visible distinct three rows) all one color on the body (no red/orange leakage on the shoulders specifically) and no visible pointy feathers in the hackle/saddle region. I would say pullet for now because of those reasons mentioned.

fl.gif Hoping she is. I think she's neat looking. I forget I have them since they were broody raised and stay away from me. Today I finally decided to catch them and see if I could tell for sure if I have boys or girls and it was the first time in awhile that I've got a close look at them. I had to do a double take when I saw the white beard, I wasn't expecting that at all. big_smile.png

Helen: Daria, do you have to look at everything in such a negative light?

Daria: Could you possibly be referring to the harsh light of reality?

I have a few ideas to run past the vet today for Spirit to maybe help.   We'll see if there is anything more we can do for her.

Yes...she lacks topline muscle, for sure.  Looking at a different pad than the one I have....trying to decide the best one for her.  I can feel the difference when sitting in my saddle...she doesn't have the muscle/flesh in the saddle bar areas and my saddle is not as comfortable as it was.  She does well with it being full bars, though.  Just needs padding.  Those pics were not well posed, and my son is not good at holding a horse still, lol.  She doesn't feel up hill, and actually feels really nice and level.  Definitely has a nice sitting trot compared to most QH's, and she's light on her feet, despite the overgrowth of her toes.  Very tiny little feet once they are trimmed.  She has a small head like an Arab, so I've ordered a different halter for her.  She is small, too...about 14-14.1 hh.

Can't wait to hear what the vet has to say about Spirit!

Thanks. smile.png That's why I love EE's, it seems like every time I look at them they look different, so it's like having 10 chickens in one. If only I could sex the darn things.

thumbsup.gif. That's what I've noticed too. So many beautiful different color and patterns!

Roo? I love this one. His legs match his feathers, if only he had a blue comb too. lol.png I'm not entirely sure about him either though. His comb is smaller and not as red as than the one I am for sure is a roo, but there are 3 rows. Doesn't matter what he is though if the black is a girl, since I'll be able to keep both then. I couldn't decide if they were both boys which one I wanted.
