Any updates on delivery of your african/dewlap pair??

Tell me more about this bison roundup - sounds fun.  I've been thinking about trying to find a riding vacation for hubby and I.  He hasn't ridden much since he traded in his POA for a quad as a kid, so I need to find something that doesn't require you to be an expert horseman.

Not too bad, but noticeably bigger than her cohorts. Could she have something stuck in there or maybe she has a sour crop. I don't know. No vet available today in our area that sees birds. What are some things I can try? Thanks, Shannon

Could she have been eating the feathers of the birds she was biting?

Not sure I'd recommend the bison roundup, although they do have a group of riders that ride in the back like hill toppers in foxhunting.  Many even turn back after the halfway point (before the big climb).  There are 150+ riders moving 500+ bison 12 miles across an island, over a small mountain ridge.   It is pretty exhausting and even our horses, who are pretty well conditioned, tried to quit on us after cantering all the way up the ridge to keep up with the bison, once they got moving.

Another similar, but better suited event would be the annual Moab endurance race.  We rode 2 of 3 days in 2008 and had a fantastic experience!  I am pretty sure the local group, Global Endurance, offers seasoned horses for beginner riders.  I think they also do private guided horse trips.

Finally, there is another outfit in south central Utah called Ruby's Horseback Adventures. They do guided rides into Bryce Canyon.  I have not been to this place (not so much our thing to do), but I bet it would be a really fun horse vacation into incredible red rock country.

Thanks IU! They are so much sweeter than any I've purchased at a feed store. So far Bruce seems to be a pretty good mommy.

Thanks!  I think the Bryce Canyon ride would be something hubby would really enjoy.  I'll look into that.

I think I may have found a way to help Spirit!  In my research, I found that the company Teva made a custom shoe for a penguin whose foot looks just like Spirit's foot.  So, I hunted down the specific person who works at Teva who designed the penguin shoe and called him.  We had a great talk and he said he would like to help my goose!!  I sent him pics and he wants me to trace the foot and send him the outline, then he will look for samples of different materials.  He will be in town for the big trade show in August, so we have a goal to have something to try to fit on her when he is here.

I really think if Spirit had a shoe like the penguin, she could live a normal life with the rest of her dewlap clan.  fl.gif
