Morning Iain!  Hows the babies?  I think of your African Geese a lot.  The large sebbies are interested in the goslings.  When I have them all out, though, they just want to chase them away from "their" pool!  Poor guys. 

Poor Kevin.  I was up until 2am, but nobody was here.  Just think, we could have been chit chatting from 12 - 2 anyway! 

Hi Marty.

My babies are all good, thanks!  I figured out a wrap for Spirit that works great!  Hope my vet will let me double her indoor pen size on our next visit (this Friday) as she is getting so big!  Teva guy has me playing with different kinds of bicycle tubes and adhesives to fashion a shoe base to the wrap, so we are continuing to make progress on that front too.

Funny that you think of my africans (who also play the pool is mine game with our ducks).  I think of you when I spend time with Chicory (Erin toulouse).  I need to take new pics of her. She is turning out beautifully. 

Where are the new pics you promised to take of your dewlaps???  I just LOVE seeing yours, Dutch's and Celtic's pics.

Shannon, where are the pics of your dewlaps?   Weren't you going to email them to me already so I can post them here??

Happy Fathers Day!

Hubby is out fishing with his oldest, so it's eerily quiet here with just me and the little guy. Glad hubby got out for a while though, we were starting to butt heads with him spending so much time at home.

No silkie ducklings for me this time around. Think I'm either ready to give up on bantams or order from Holderreads. The five that locked down went into the garbage late last night because they were stinking up the hatcher. Three of those had been moving at lockdown. Ugh.

We were able to keep her at home as I had power of atturney and she had a living will. With out the proper paper work we could have been charged with miss treatment and neglect. I am proud to have kept my word and allowing her to pass on. Just think we put animals down for being unwanted or very ill and no $ to pay for care. Yet we are willing to hold on to a persons life just because we don't want them to go and then watch them suffer by-themselves in a nursing home. Question... what is wrong with this picture. I have worked in nursing homes for many years and they are just drop off sites for the unwanted truthfully.
Sorry if I affend some people but I am very proud to have taken care of my mother myself and let her die in my arms just as she had brought me into this word and cradled me in her arms.

I'm with you on this.  Both my grandparents passed at home, and I would never put any family member in a nursing home.  I hate those places.  Home is where they belong, or wherever they want to be at that time.

Yep, got her some alfalfa.  But I need to back off....went for a ride last night and she acted like she was on speed, lol.  I'm giving her Hard Keeper on her feed at the moment, too.  I'll look into those others you mentioned.  Stupid farrier took too much off for a first trimming in her case.  She has some separation of the hoof wall around her toes...left foot is tender.  He didn't leave enough hoofwall on that foot...IDIOT!  He won't be back out!

Dutch, I think you would like Empower.  My "bionic horse" tends to get on the thin side when in heavy riding program and empower has really helped him when needed.  Uh oh on the alfalfa.  I have not experienced that personally, but then again, since they have grown up on it, maybe I just don't know the difference?  I hate when farriers do that!  Hopefully she will be fine in a day or two.

I have to go to LA for a hearing tomorrow morning (I leave this afternoon) and hubby is in charge of all the babies.  So, in an effort to make routine a little easier, we merged our toulouse trio with our dewlaps for the time being. It was a total non-event.  WHEW!

He trimmed her feet a week ago.  When her feet are on concrete, there is a gap under the front toe on that one foot that you can slide something 1/4" thick into.  So the hoofwall isn't touching the ground around the toe, so no protection for the separation.  The other one is flush with the ground.  Idiot didn't check for separation, just trimmed her up short.  I just need to limit the amount of alfalfa I give her...too much makes a horse hot, especially when they are not used to it. 

Hey all!

Early pippers to report! The batch due Thursday has already started pipping. 6 eggs from my flock and the last surviving white runner from my birthday eggs. Out of 14, all were scrambled or infertile, except one. One. Sheesh.

Just cleaned and disinfected the hatcher, getting her up to temp for this batch. Silly ducklings. Right now they're chillin on their sides in the chicken incubator until the little hatcher is up to temp.

What I have cooking:

6 from my flock, one white runner, due Thursday, will be early.

54 chicken eggs, 30 duck from my flock, due Saturday (will probably be early with my luck)

14 (I think) from my flock, due a week after that

24 khaki campbell and 12 from my flock, due a week after that.

That's it. I'm stopping. Unless something really cool like welshies, non-abused silkie eggs or cayugas come my way...

hi everyone!  i tossed two of the eggs ever the weekend, the one that was really cracked and the leaking one.  so i think i am down to 35 eggs in the incubator.  

What kind of ducks are they?
