I wouldn't spend the money on anything "fancy".. it'll just get dirty, stained, torn.. pooped on, pecked, plucked, bled on, scratched... eggs broken in or on.... on and on and on...

K.I.S.S! 

I wear:
older worn out Jeans and t-shirt and muck boots in summer,
older worn out Jeans and sweatshirt and much boots in fall/spring,
older worn out jeans, sweatshirt, insulated coveralls, gloves, hat, extra socks and muck boots in winter.

Keep It Simple Silly - you'll be busy enough, why waste time worrying about being so fashionable  hu .....well... unless you still wanna look like a city girl hide and you don't do any dirty work  hide ... then, have fun!!   woot

Makes sense SC, that's why I shop eBay and thrift stores and/or sew what i want.  wink.  Looks like the muck boots are a definite must.  We're looking to have boer goats, rabbits, a garden, of course, and when we can afford a milk cow; so yeah.  I've got a pair on eyeball at eBay.

On a serious note I was advised to wear long sleeve from a CA girlfriend country girl and make sure my jeans go down into my boots (I guess intimating no skin should be showing).

Yeah, waay back in my single days (er ah, that would be April of this year celebrate)

Writing of tank tops, I don't know why but when we are out working on the land (it's undeveloped and we're clearing it) I get mad mosquito bites.  I mean it is weird.  Hubby doesn't get bit.  His children don't.  ??????  That's what made me start borrowing this one long-sleeved shirt of his.  I love wearing "wife beaters", but looks like I can't out there. sickbyc


Sounds like you will need alot of bug spray!!!  You know off makes those things you can clip onto your clothes or a braclet type thing to wear that keeps them away. Try that. I used the braclet one summer and it was amazing!!! You mush have atractive blood to them lol. Find a lose long selve shirt to put over your shirt. That will keep you cool with out being to tight to hold in all the heat. Oh yeah!!! I forgot walmart had some really cute boots in there the other day that were cheap and colorful!!! some had designs or animals on them to!

For mucking you want your jeans inside your boots to prevent them from getting yucky.  For hauling hay, shavings and the like you want them outside your boots to prevent that stuff from falling inside your boots and making your feet hideously uncomfortable.

When I'm "normal" I too wear jeans and either a tank top, t-shirt, flannel or sweatshirt depending on the season.  And then there's winter, when I wear a t-shirt, an arctic Carhartt, insulated overalls, -40º rated boots up to my knees, chopper mittens, a neck warmer and a hat. roll  In FL you won't have to deal with that, at least.

Love the way you think! I have been seen in my footie pajamas (LOVE 'EM) & rubber boots out collecting eggs when I first get up...yeah ALL the neighbors know I'm crazy, but I'm good with it.
In answer to your question, Lyric, LOTS of old shirts (whether tanks, t's, whatever) is a MUST in FL. In the summer you will sweat yourself to death. I recommend t's rather than tanks at that point so you have a sleeve to wipe your face on when your hands are full! lol I was lucky when my boys moved out; they left stuff they didn't want but were too lazy to do anything with. I kept some of the ratty t's to farm in & donated the rest to Salvation Army. I also visit Walmart right after the major holidays--you know how they have t's celebrating them? I just got about 7 t's for .50 each--brand new, some glow in the dark, but all great for working in!
Jeans, overalls, rubber boots, aprons & gloves are the only other things I can think of.
Love your site AND that sewing machine--would love to learn how to sew!

Hello Ladies:

 

Some weeks ahead now I've settled on wearing skirts on our lil farm.  Was turned onto a blog (http://aspiring-homemaker.blogspot.com/) where she's a woman after my own heart.  When I read that skirts are cooler than jeans it was all she wrote; just what I needed to read.  The thought has been seconded by many others since I read it there.  So, I'm on a journey to build up my skirt/dress wardrobe and I am seeking vintage patterns (50's and 19th century specifically) to get my new, old treadle sewing machine to smoking.  thumbsup.gif
