X2! I've never had the production from metzer, but heard they are good. I have had Khaki Campbells and they layed well for me.

I bought Runners because they lay - appraently everywhere. Mine are not yet old enough.

However, my Mallards lay the most perfect green eggs. I am not great at frying them yet, but they sure to bake up nicely!

Runners, Khaki Campbells, Welsh Harlequin (one of my favorites), Anconas (another of my favorites), the sex links from various hatcheries bred for egg production and I'm sure there are more! Look through the egg laying breeds and pick one that appeals to you. I love the Welsh Harlequins for their pretty look, lots of nice eggs and sweet personalities. I also like the Anconas, not sure they lay quite as well, but SO pretty and easy to tell apart with their wild spotted colors. They are also calm and sweet and mine went broody last summer... oh yah, no wonder they didn't lay so well, they don't lay while they are brooding! lol

My Magpie (1.5 years) lays good amount of eggs. And shes pretty consistent about it. She also had a brood this past summer... she sat 12 eggs - All 12 hatched perfectly healthy little Khaki crosses. One of my other two is laying but I dont know if its my Cayuga (1.5 years) or the Khaki/Magpie cross (born in July)... Either way Im consistently getting at least two eggs a day.

I heard khakis runners, and welsh harlequins are the best layer yet! I have four welsh harlequins, they dont lay yet becuz they are still young, but they will in spring... I had khakis at on point and they werent my best layers, my rouen was actually the best! But out of my two mature hens, (a ancona and a rouen) the ancona is the only one laying!
