I'm going on line today to look it up but does anyone know, from research, how much the average large size chicken drinks in a day? My 22 birds, including 4 turkeys, are drinking a little less than a gallon a day by my best estimate. I'm using a 2 gal pail about 3/4 full per trip to fill the pipe and today, after about 2 days, it took most of it. I haven't kept track of time or time of day etc. so it's not a scientific analysis but it looks like my system will sustain them for roughly a week. I would think they drink more than that. Maybe the comment about them needing water every day or they will die is correct. If that is all they drink, they don't have any reserves, eh?
They seem to be healthy enough and I've seen them all banging away on the nipples, 6 or 8 or 10 at a time so they are all using it and the turkeys like the horizontal ones. I watched one go down the line and try all 4 on one trip.
