With several comments about finding it hard to obtain good quality Brabanters, has anyone purchased from Sandhill? Where have you found good quality stock? If our town changes it's regs, this is...

I like everything about it except how it looks right now. I know it lays decently. It is a great part of my great waterfowl flock.
-
First, watching a runner duck run is awesome. They can find their own food. They aren't like pekins in water. Mine haven't started laying but I heard their decent.
-
Its not as fat and slow as a pekin, but its not frail either. I want a mallard but I don't want a flying bird. The rouen is great for that.
-
They are my calmest birds and are easiest to catch. They eat less than Pekins. I heard they also lay well, but mine are younger.

post #2 of 1211/10/11 at 12:04pmi'm not sure about the first one being a welsummer, her legs should be yellow and her coloring is a little off. does she have a single comb or not?
the second is a red sexlink, or golden comet.
the third is a partridge rock.~home is where the chickens are.~home is where the chickens are.post #3 of 1211/10/11 at 12:13pm- Location: New York State

First one I'm not sure on.. Welsummer is possible though.
Second is a Red Sexlink (Red Star, Golden Comet, Cinnamom Queen, ISA Brown, all the same thing).
Third I'm thinking more Barnevelder than Partridge Rock ...~Heather

"Music is what makes me dream... It's what makes me desire something..."The pictures aren't that great, but I pulled up partrage rock and it looks just like the top chicken which I thought may be a wellsummer. That last chicken's picture doesn't do her justice. Her head and feathers are shiny black with tinges of green and her mottling is a spectacular bright copper, she is stunning compared to the more bland first picture! The picture of a barnevelder looks just like her....
post #6 of 1211/10/11 at 1:19pm1 looks pretty spot on for a hatchery quality Welsummer
2 Im not sure of but most likely Red Sexlink
3 Looks to be some sort of BarnevelderWay to many chickens to remember, 7 runner ducks, 2 Turkeys, and 1 huge BO roo.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your flock and aren't sure about the breeds--first one guess easter egger, but has yellow legs, one a red sexlink, the other one. . .beautiful feathers. . .no clue. I hope that you have a secure coop to lock your new girls up at night until you can get rid of the raccoon. Please remember that chicken wire is only to keep chicks in. . .chicken wire is not strong enough to keep varmits out. Good luck with your new girls!post #8 of 1211/10/11 at 3:09pm- Location: Pendleton, SC

Pretty sure #3 is NOT a partridge rock. I'm raising two right now and from both my experience and what I've seen in other people's pictures, their heads are lighter than the body, not darker.

The remaining 6 of my original 7 barred rocks are 3yrs old and happily divided between a friend and my mom.
Laying: 2 Partridge Rocks, 1 Columbian Wyandotte and 2 Black Australorps. 14 weeks: 3 bantam Araucana.
Cowed to chicken math and sharing my bedroom with 8 BBS Ameraucana mixes.~Meg~
