Spring Granny Square Swap - Page 19

I just saw this thread.  I haven't participated in a granny square swap before, but I think it's a great idea.  I have some issues with my hands (carpel tunnel, trigger finger), and I'm not sure I could complete enough squares to participate.  I'm going to try a few squares and see how it goes, and if it looks like I can do it, I"ll join.

I wanted to comment on an earlier post in which someone talked about their work not being good enough to give away.  Believe me, it IS the thought that counts.  When my granddaughter was 7 years old, she was diagnosed with leukemia.  She is 10 years old now and is off treatment and doing great.  However, right after she was diagnosed when she was in the hospital and so very sick and feeling awful, their pastor came to visit her and gave both her and her mother (my daughter) a prayer shawl/blanket that ladies at the church had crocheted.  He talked about how the ladies prayed over each shawl as it was finished and asked God to make sure it went to the person who most needed it.  Little Lily received so much comfort from that prayer shawl.  She'd lie there in the hospital bed with the shawl wrapped tightly around her - wrapped in the prayers of others.  And my daughter would sit by the hospital bed with her prayer shawl wrapped around her.  The prayer shawls were tremendously comforting to them.   So if you make prayer shawls to give to children or adults in the hospital, you are doing a very good thing!

Thank you all for the merit for my sore thumb. It is healing. I made a scarf while waiting for it to heal enough to make squares. I'm back to squares, but have difficulty picking up eggs!

Rancher: Maybe we'll have a swap some time with sunset colors and you can use that orange (if you haven't used it for something else by then). That would be pretty.

Carol: Thank you for the story. If everyone put that kind of intention into everything we do, the world would be a more peaceful place.

Now that Christmas is over it's time to get yarn and start on my squares!

I went back to work on my squares after concentrating on gifts,,, I couldn't remember how to start! I had to go look online at a video,, lol,,, I'm trying more patterns.

Is this a true Granny Square swap?  As in the traditional Granny Square?  Or are all squares called Granny Squares?     Just wondering what you all have in mind for patterns.   As in how complicated or simple or design wise.  Any rules to that?//  I am doing a traditional square right now~just still practicing. 

I have a book of squares so I'm good there.  I cut my finger today and it hurts like crazy.  Working on a pen for the new chicks.  One time I put a fork through my finger and had to have surgery. 

Ouch!  So many injuries lately.  I hope you and Alethea both heal quickly!

Oweeee rancher   that sounds painful.  I also hope you heal up soon.

I made some squares last night, and I even changed to an F hook and tried to do them tight and they were too big     If I go with a classic granny I can at least get them the right size.  I think I am going to go and get some yarn today. I had picked out lavender and a soft green, but now I think I might add another color too.  Maybe after I do some more squares I will have it down.  But the squares in the Book 200 blocks if I follow the pattern turn out to be about 10 inches. I really like some of the paTTERNS too.

Nothing wrong with regular granny squares!  They are wonderful too!
