There have been confirmed cases of Hendra in north NSW coast.

People generally get it from coming in contact with cat poop, in the garden or handling kitty litter ,especially dangerous for pregnant woman. Cats transmit it amoungst our wildlife. I know a lady at Nowra that was diagnosed with it back in the 90's.

Oh Derr, you are absolutely right. I was thinking of Trichinella spiralis. I should think clearer before speaking.

I even know a lady in Caliope who's daughter was effected because she was pregnant when she got it. Everyone knows don't scoop cat poop when pregnant - except me after a sleepless night sorry.

And cheers thanks for setting the record straight.

Yes I know a staff member at our school knew somebody had had it so she was always anti kids playing in sand at the school.

Haha, we have a river at the bottom of the garden, stock water troughs in every direction , yet both of our dogs prefer to drink from the goldfish fountain. roll.png

Confirmed cases are being collated in a study as they now know that the flu shot was ineffective this year as it didn't cover all 4 strains. Takes 48 hours to get results. Mine unfortunately triggered off my existing condition , which is why I ended up in an isolation ward in hospital. I was told to stay away from children as this strain can kill youngsters. sad.png
That's not good news to hear about the flu vax sad.png
The last time the flu vax failed, my daughter and I (who were given the flu vax) both contracted it (in October actually) and she ended up hospitalised in an isolation ward as she is an asthmatic (she was 2 1/2 at the time ).My husband (who didn't get the flu vax!) ended up taking time off work to look after us both. Hope both you and your husband recover soon. I'm not sure if it has actually hit WA yet.

I'm glad to report that our young girls have had another day in the big coop yard and all gone to bed in the coop by themselves!
I sound like a too proud mama tongue.png
Got a question tho - they are still all huddling in a puppy pile at the back of the coop. When will they be ready for the ladder perch I made?

I've put in some mini perches but their not using them and I don't want to scare them with the big perch if they aren't ready.
