Australia - Six states..and that funny little island. - Page 2881

I'm happy to report that miss frizz is doing amazing and has stayed away from the higher water container. I do have an issue i noticed last night. After having frozen shoulder for weeks and not being able to do quite as much as normal i was feeling a bit better yesterday so time to give the layer coop a thorough clean. As i was doing the pen i noticed 2 of my aussies have black dots above the eye lid. On closer inspection it appears to be lice or mites of some type. Stick fleas perhaps? never had anything like this before and everyone else seems fine. This is what i have done so far. Cleaned the entire coop. Replaced all bedding and sprayed it all with Maldison (sp). Anything else i should be doing? don't want whatever it is to spread so if anyone has any advice that would be great.

I agree with Fancy she is fine. A pretty girl too.

My little house is fine just as a "bedroom", they all scrunch up together anyway.  The downside is that there's no separate laying area.  I've decided to set up the second little house as a second "room" to their sleeping quarters and see how that goes.

I'll still keep my eye out on gumtree.  You never know, I've been lucky with the things I've "scored".  Often you miss out, but sometimes you find something local, and see it first.  I shouldn't really look....  It leads to adopting more chickens....

EDIT: you must have brought me luck, just found a free cubby, 5 minutes away...  don't know what the handyman will charge me to pull it apart and re-erect it here, but it won't be the cost of new....  yay.

Just found a whole heap of screws and some mending plates that I must have left outside all strewn across the roof of the little chook house.  Bloody crows, now I have to hide stuff....

Great news! Can't wait for pics.

I have mixed luck with gumtree. Been selling a bed for my brother and had EIGHT! People say they would buy it and three of those even went as far as organising time to pick up etc. not one of them showed up or let me know they found something else. Finally sold it on eBay.

I've found some bargains on gumtree but the best ones always seem to be after I've given up and gone and bought whatever it was lol

Im not saying all , but some people that continually loose birds to illness get out of the poultry game and sell everything off. So buyer beware. Second hand, strip it down and drench it, let it dry before adding your birds. smile.png

A few months ago a friend wanted to look at some advertised pullets. While I was looking around - the seller told my friend she had had mareks a few years back. Ahhh it stays in the ground for years. You do have to be careful. I always change shoes after visiting other people chooks. You have to be careful.

Miss Frizz. Just after coming out from the heat light in the bathroom, later that afternoon and then about a few minutes before she jumped off the couch and took off down the back.

Good morning folks :frow

I do have to chuckle, in the mornings I am still putting on the shorts and T-shirt to go out and feed the girls but hubby has on track suit pants, T-shirt, windcheater, socks and runners  :lau Both he and his cat Syba are sooks when it comes to cooler weather and I do delight in calling them Frogs! Lol  Funny thing is, hubby has lived in Canada and Tasmania; you would think he would have just a little tolerance for what he says is cold ;)

potato chip aaaw, that little girl is adorable!  I love her colouring .. gimmeee! Lol

Hey satay sorry to hear that you may have nasties in the coop.  I am not familiar with Maldison.  With the mite infestation I had, I followed Fancy’s advice and went with alternating between Surface Spray and Yates Success Ultra.  I do know that some do not like using Pestene as it may have been linked with Alzheimer’s but I do use it to dust the girls and the nest boxes if mites/lice are present.  I just dusted the girls once and thoroughly cleaned and sprayed the coop/nest boxes for three weekends in a row and got them beaten.

I am so pleased that Miss Frizz is OK now .. she is so darn cute!
