Welcome.  And wow, there's a few of us on here.  I'm on Gabriola Island, which is almost Nanaimo and I do most of my shopping in Nanaimo.   I love all the info.  I've hatched out 40 chicks so far this year, and am hatching out atleast another 60.  I have hatched out barnevelders, welsummer/wyandotte cross, wyandotte and will be hatching green egg layers (americauna x barnevelder) and marans.

Long live the fuzz-butts!

Nice to hear from everyone in and around Nanaimo!!  We are a growing group of backyard chicken keepers, yippee!  Islandgal99, that's a lot of chickens -- we are only allowed 6 in Nanaimo.

I'm getting really sick of the flies -- anyone have any solutions for that?

Also, there is a facebook page called Backyard Chickens of Nanaimo if anyone wants to join (not mine).

All the best!  Judy

Thanks, but I think it would be a battle that we would not win.  Going from 4 to 6 was probably already a bit step for Nanaimo City Council.  I will be happy if they don't rescind the by-law...  I wonder if they get many complaints about the backyard chickens?

Well i see this is a bit of an older post, but were in Nanaimo BC too! more like Cedar area.
Just got our chickens last fall, 6 older gals of about 3+ years ranging from rhode island reds, astralorp, columbian rock, barred rock. Really want some black copper maran chickens though and amerucanas/easter eggers/olive eggers or even welsummer...get some variety eggs going! so exciting!
