Anyone have any tricks as to find out who is laying eggs? I am trying trying to figure out
which hen is responsible. Will she be acting differently than the others? Besides catching her in the act
are there any other techniques?

She is also laying eggs right beside the nesting box. 6" up and 6" to the side and she would be right on the mark.

Ah well......I guess I'm just happy she's laying and all the hens are happy!

When my first hen started to lay i noticed she was very vocal all of a sudden, and more than usual. I also think the rooster knows when they are fertile, because that is the only hen he wants to mate with. I'm not an expert so i could be wrong. She is also more calm and friendly now that she is laying eggs. She used to be my craziest!!

My pullets wouldn't let me get close enough to check vents. So one day this past summer I just sat by the coop and watched. I had a raised coop then - so if I opened the door and sat in a chair by the door - the nest box was just a few inches away. I watched as they each laid their egg - up close and personal.

I was able to figure out which one laid which color/size egg. I sat there a long time, though. I'm still surprised they weren't put off with my being there. It was fascinating.

I took your advice and checked my hens....much to their dismay.... and figured out which one was laying. It was really easy
to tell. Thank you for the advice everyone!
