Fishing line to deter hawks?

I've heard that stringing fishing line across where you keep your chickens can deter hawks. Something about the hawks not being able to see the fishing lines but it freaks them out when they hit them. Anyone heard of this? My chickens are kept in a very large fenced in area where netting across the top is infeasible (approximately 1/4 of an acre). I've never had a hawk kill any of my chickens but I know someone a few hours away that recently had a full grown RIR killed by a red tailed hawk. We have a lot of red tailed hawks in my area and I've even seen them watch my chickens but never attack. Red tailed hawks are protected so I can't just shoot them unless I actually see them go after my chickens which would be a little late in my opinion. I'd rather practice prevention then have to burry any of my feathery pets.  Anyone have experience with using fishing line as a deterrent?

I've heard of using something more visible...like kite string and hanging old CD's on the string. The idea is that the hawk DOES see it and is turned away because he can't swoop in on his prey.

I did it in my far back yard.Tied red mylar to the fishing line.Neighbor thought I was setting up for a party, lol.Chickens survived the summer back there.I ran the line from one side of the yard to the other. My yard is around 90 feet wide, maybe less. You could use T posts or bamboo poles and zig zag it.
