So, after talking with my daughter's Showmanship instructor (who shows and breeds Aussie Cattle Dogs), and seeing how well she does with the dogs, I am thinking about getting her a puppy to raise of her own.  Our Standards already are quite ingrained that I am the alpha of the pack.  So, she has it narrowed down already that she wants either a Kooikerhondje or a Portuguese Water Dog.

She has good taste!!!

 

Although, I would find a Staby quite a tasteful choice ;)

Can you find Kooikerhondje in the US? I've met some nice PWD, good choice, both!

Yes, both are wonderful.  There are a few breeders here in the US.  One is actually just over in Wisconsin and another in Illinois.  The price is very steep, but worth it if it is a friend for her for many years, and they are a very healthy breed from what I have read.  She will do well with whichever breed she chooses though.  She actually came back down last night and said "Mom, if a Kooiker is too expensive, I will go with a less expensive breed.  I don't want to use all of your money up."  What a sweetheart!  Just for that I want to get her the most expensive!  No, I don't judge dogs based on how much they cost!  I am just saying, what a big heart my little girl has!  She wanted a Border Collie at first, but I won't get a herder like that without a job to keep it busy.

There is a girl who has a Visla in her obedience group.  There is a Great Dane, a long and short haired Doxie pair, Jack Russells, some mixes, a Rottweiler who has to be muzzled to be there, and a few others.  It is a nice mix of kids and dogs - almost all girls at the leash though.  My daughter likes the people in the group and loves our dogs, so it is going well.  I will keep you all updated on our puppy quest though ;)

Upon closer examination, maybe it is an English Pointer?  The face is larger and jowls heavier than the GSP.
