I thought about using just the gallon dog dish and setting a clay pot inverted in the middle of the dish. I've heard that if you just fill the bowl up with water, the chickens will dip too far in and get their wattles wet and may cause frostbite. Has something to do with the thick lip of the dog bowl??? If you use the dish dry and set the plastic chicken waterer in the dish, won't that sit down too low?
