Im looking about getting into these funny birds.
About culls.... what can be done with the rejects?
Are their feathers good for pillows and stuffing jackets.
How much meat is on them? Do they make good eggs?

Im actually kind of serious...

just looking for some other factors for keeping them beyond the obvious fuzzy cuteness?

I don't have silkies, but I can answer a couple of questions.

About meat: You won't see them eaten much in the U.S. They have black skin which people here are not use to. They are eaten in other countries. They are not big birds.

I'm sure their eggs taste fine, however, they are not raised primarily as layers either. They are excellent broodies and mamas. And, of course, they are cute as the dickens

Apparently silkies are in demand in Chinese markets, though. From what I've been told, they like to eat the black skinned (and bluish meat!) silkies for special occasions. Silkies are cute and my only silkie (now deceased) had a very spunky personality. I really liked her. Stupid fox!
