Exactly! You don't know how many times I refer to that book..both on forums and in my personal life! I think Galanie has it right....people ask opinions or advice at times when it is very clear that they are really just wanting confirmation of their own ideas, so they naturally pick the advice that is most congruent with their own ideas.
You can see that on this thread as well. Someone asks for advice, someone from the Land of Unicorns & Rainbows answers, one of the OTs says, "Sorry, but that's ludicrous." Original OP gets offended, the LU&R poster gets offended and they both leave. At that time it is very clear to me that the original OP wasn't here to get actual advice...they were here to get their own methods approved by the OTs. When it doesn't happen, they pack up their chicken diapers and go home.
That's all good, IMO, because it means those who aren't real serious about raising chickens have gravitated to another thread where they can get their hands patted, their egos nursed and their sentimental ideas bolstered. Those who are serious about having a quality flock and are working towards the same can learn without the occasional drama interrupting the flow of info.
