(She's 99% black with slight brown vertical striping-one of the other hens looks like 99% Wyandotte  and lays huge eggs) The generic box of Monistat I got from Walmart came with 3 suppositories and a tube of cream.  Much less expensive than I expectedbig_smile.png

I am waiting until tomorrow to bathe her bottom again and dose her because it's supposed to get pretty cold tonight and I don't want to risk her getting chilled.

I really want to get her all better so I would really appreciate any wisdom I can get from you so knowledgeable folksbow.gif

Thanks so much for everyone's help love.gif

BTW~everyone else have their "blu butts" and I didn't wind up blue (well, maybe just a little but found out that GOOP will take it right off!)

Ok, never mind!  getting the suppository down her was the easy part!wee.gifShe wasn't too thrilled with getting her butt washed again tho she settled down once she remembered how good it feels big_smile.png  Didn't even fuss when I sprayed her poor bare butt blue.  Now she matches the rest of the girls.  Good thing they all have black bodies anywaylol.png

Day 7 on the Monistat, and after another good butt wash, by afternoon I could clearly see there was no change.  Unless one of you very knowledgeable folks have any other ideas I am going to have concede defeat.sad.png  It is so hard, she is such a sweet hen and still a good layer (crazy) and I have to admit she has managed to crawl just a little bit into my heart.  As long as she is still eating and drinking and appears to still be enjoying finally being able to live like she should have all along, I will just wait and watch.  The first sign she appears to be suffering tho, well...........

Don't give up on her! I have a hen that appeared to have vent gleet and I have tried lots of things and the pasty butt comes and goes. This has been going on for 8 months. She lives in the yard/ coop with 20 other hens and no one else has the problem. She eats, drinks and is a normal healthy chicken otherwise. Don't put her down unless is isn't eating and appears really sick. Maybe someone will come up with a good solution for the pasty butt here soon!

Can you get your hands on some nystatin? From the reading I did with mine most seemed to think that was best. Mine died after the first dose so I never got the chance to see if it would work.

Have you tried a clove of garlic in a gallon of water? Or Acidophilus?   I have never had to deal with Vent gleet but I was just looking info up on it when I seen your post.  I did have a pullet with a really bad case of sour crop and I used both the garlic and acidophilus on her and it helped. I just bought the pills in the nutrition department and dissolved one in with a little bit of water and gave it to her using a medicine dropper. I let her drink it right off the dropped. Good Luck

I had to find a breastfeeding mother and got hers. It is a prescription med. Do you have a vet who could write one?

I am taking my hen to vet tomorrow for possible broken leg and I will ask about Nystatin. This is the hen that has had the on and off pasty butt. I will get  all the info I can on vent gleet and get back with you tomorrow. Hopefully with a good solution! I never asked him before because I would do the epsom salt and it would work for a while.
