Foamy, bubbly substance in corner of eye.

Hey,

1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.) Almost 3 year old Easter Egger hen. She is normal weight, same as the others.
2) What is the behavior, exactly.Normal, just like the other 2 normal girls.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms? A while, actually. Maybe a year and a half.
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?Nope
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.No
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.Nothing.
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.Regular Purina layer crumbles, and hose water.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.Normal, but a little oily now and then.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?Nothing at all.
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?Umm..... Mostly ourselves/
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help. I'll try to get a picture of the foam, but it comes and goes. It leaves for a month, and comes for a day. Also, there is like, a sinus, I would call it in the corner of her eye. It has always been there, though.
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use Regular TSC bedding.

sounds like she might have a respiratory illness. Does it happen all the time or under certain conditions (running, flying, other activity)? She might just have a cold, but it could be more or less to it than that. I have had chickens that only had the one symptom before. Their problem was respiratory. Maybe someone more insightful will chime in. smile

I had a similar thing going on with my showgirl cockerel in Sept.  I bought the VetRx for poultry and did the treatment for eyeworm.  It took 3 days of treatments and hasn't come back.  I love that stuff!  I drip some in their heated water bowl occasionally and use it to warmed up on their combs sometimes.  And it lasts FOREVER!

Momma to an app, a paint, a cardi, a doxie, and 17 chickies.  2 ee, 1 showgirl, 2 russians, 9 silkies, 2 salmon faverolle/brown leghorn crosses and 1 buff brahma bantam.

Has she had any breathing issues lately that sound like pneumonia? The reason I ask is that over the brutal summer, when we were wetting down the pens to keep everyone from keeling over dead, some of my birds got a fungal lung infection from breathing in spores. Afterward, one of them, an older hen who has sneezed her entire life (possibly due to malformed nasal passages-her head is very small for her body), developed foam in one eye. We rushed her in the house and called the state vet. He said she had developed a secondary bacterial sinusitis infection following the fungal infection and to give her Tylan for 3 days, that it was not mycoplasmosis in her case at all.

Even if your hen may not have had a fungal infection, she could have a form of sinusitis. Could be isolated or could be MG, but can't say for sure.

-No, it just seems to appear, not during any certain activity.

-Where can I get VetRx?

-No symptoms of pneumonia, as I said, she acts normal, breathes normal, walks normal etc.

This thread's pics are what my hen looks like, except less foam, no swelling, and no discharge. Also, she has a little bump in the corner of her eye. I think I have a picture of that.

You can purchase VetRx at TSC or Agway or prolly any feed store.

Thank you so much xD I wish I posted this a few days earlier, because we just went there yesterday, and probably won't be back for a 2 months. It's quite a drive to get there... I'm sure we can make an extra trip though.

-How much is it?
-Is there a certain title, like BlueKote, RedKote, Antibiotic 101, etc.
-Is it for poultry

Ingredients are Canada Balsam, Camphor, Oil of Origanum, Oil of Rosemary, etc. It is not an antibiotic, just sort of like a Vicks Vaporub type treatment. It's rather aromatic, something chickens can be adversely affected by sometimes, however, it's been used for many years by poultry keepers. I've used it to shine up legs and moisturize combs.
